Roto Grip Hustle X-Ray

PRODUCT DETAILS: COLOR: Slate / Black - CORE: Hustle™ Core - COVER: VTC™ Solid Reactive BOX FINISH: 4000-grit Abralon®

Layouts: X-RAY # 1: 5 X 4 X 4 … X-Ray #2: 5 x 3 ½ X 2 ½

My updated specs: Ball speed: average 15.5 mph. - Rev Rate: 425 – Axle tilt: 16 degrees – Axis rotation 70 degrees.

Since the introduction of the Roto Grip Hustle line 8 years ago, I knew that the Hustle line would be a “game changer” for years to come. The Hustle INK established itself as a key piece for all levels of bowlers from weekly league bowlers all the way up to the professional ranks, like recording the 34th sanctioned 900 series to winning national PWBA and PBA tournaments over the past 8 years. My favorite Hustle all-time has been the Hustle INK for year after year even when Roto Grip released new ones to the line, the INK still stood out over all them until last year when Roto Grip released the RIP version and the RIP became my new favorite since my old INKs I had were worn out. The RIP to me is the INK 2.0 with the coloring being dark and “liquid” looking. Now the X-Ray has hit the market, the RIP has been benched for now for the simple fact the X-Ray rolls a little sooner but still packs a BIG punch entering the pin deck. I have a few standard layouts since hoping back into 15lbs equipment for the first time in 5 years due to bad car wrecks – YES – plural, 2 over the past 5 years, and I drilled the first one at 5 x 4 x 4 and now recently drilled a second one – with 5 x 3 ½ x 2 ½. The reactions on both are not but amazing. X-Ray #1 is super reliable front to back with a nice little late kick entering the pocket and X-Ray #2 is quite stronger coming off the pattern and was quite shocking to me to see that much motion in the back end that was still controllable. The X-Ray #2 likes the oil a little bit more than X-Ray #1. When you watch my video, you will see X-Ray #1 I play straighter with it and use smaller angles and X-Ray #2 I can swing the lane as much as I want. What a truly versatile bowling ball for the price point that the Hustle line is in. Don’t be afraid to try one of the Hustles, it will not let you down. 58328 - Roto Grip / Re: Attention Star

Hello everyone and welcome to another Beyond the Arrows Ball Reviews brought to you by Striking Results Pro Shop, Bowlifi and Turbo 2 n 1 Grips, today we will be reviewing the new Roto Grip Attention Star.
The Attention Star has a low RG value of 2.48 which means it will rev up early and a medium differential of 0.049 and a high intermediate differential of 0.017 which will have a slightly sharp change of direction on the backend.
The Attention Star becomes the second Roto Grip release that has the AI Core Technology.  AI Core Technology lowers the RG and raises the differential that creates a quicker roll and more surface contact with the lane.  In addition, the Attention Star comes with a Momentous AV core which has been altered from what was overseas to come along with the AI core.
As per the eTrax Plus Pearl cover, which was initially formulated and used on the RSTX-2 provides a plenty of push through the front of the lane while providing plenty of footprint and responsiveness to friction down lane.
I did a ball comparison to the 900 Global Eternity and Storm Virtual Energy Blackout at 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil.  The layout chosen 65 x 4 ½ x 85. Box Finish used for review.
In comparison to the Eternity, The Attention Star starts up a little quicker being pin down but is not as sharp as the Eternity that is pin up with a stronger core. If the Attention Star was drilled the same as the Eternity I feel the Attention Star would out hook the Eternity being the Attention Star has a lower RG, a higher differential and a stronger intermediate differential.
In comparison to the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout, the Attention Star starts up earlier but being pin down is not as angular.  The Blackout was designed to be a longer but very angular on the backend to be that ball to use on the transition/burn where you need a ball to have a little more length but still make it up the hill.
As per the surface adjustments, the Attention Star’s box surface is Reacta Gloss which is which is 500>2,000>4000, reacta gloss which has been fixed from some previous issues and I haven’t changed the surface yet since the ball has been great out of the box.
In the bag, will be the Eternity Pi, Optimum Idol, Attention Star and Storm VEBO

The Optimum Idol has a low RG value of 2.47 which means it will rev up early and a high differential of 0.056, in which 0.060 is the max differential a ball can have.
The Optimum Idol  is the first  Roto Grip release that has the AI Core Technology.  AI Core Technology lowers the RG and raises the differential that creates a quicker roll and more surface contact with the lane.  In addition, the Optimum Idol also features the famous Ikon core that we have seen in all Idol releases.
As per the Microtrax Solid Reactive cover, you will see a combination of the optimum balance of midlane traction and responsiveness to friction thanks to the blend of nanoparticles throughout the coverstock. This formulation maintains its surface profile texture longer to ensure you get maximum performance while displacing oil at an above average rate compared to other coverstock materials on the market today.
I did a ball comparison to the original Roto Grip Idol and 900 Global Xponent at 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil.  The layout chosen 55 x 4 ¾ x 40. 3000 Grit used for review.
In comparison to the Original Idol, The Optimum Idol is at least 3 boards stronger downlane and starts up a little quicker.  As the Original Idol was good for was versatility within the ball surface where from the lowest to polish the Idol responds to what you need very well.
In comparison to the 900 Global Xponent, the Optimum Idol is a couple of boards stronger the Xponent which has a lower RG that’s fits just above an IQ tour solid.
As per the surface adjustments, the Optimum’s box surface is 2000 grit Abralon which is a good starter surface for a fresh oiled THS.
For me, I put polish on top of the 2000 surface that gives me a little more length and a little sharper on the backend.
In the bag, will be the Eternity Pi, Optimum Idol, Attention Star and Zen Gold Label

Last Storm ball I liked more than 5 games - Hyroad X.

Just seems lately the stuff is sorta okay. At best.

After the over hyped announcement from yesterday they should reconsider their marketing. Charging $189 for a glorified Hustle and now $199 for the benchmark ball thats already in the lineup with the Tour Dynam-X is pretty funny.

Things are certainly changing at the bowlers company and it is starting to resemble Motiv on their price points.

The Hyroad Pearl. I've owned multiple and even my house hack self was able to put up some nice numbers with it.

I wonder if they'll just come out with "The Road" Pearl now?

Absolute Power- Ball Specs
Cover Stock: R2S Deep Solid Reactive
Finish: 4000 Grit
Core: Sentinel Core
RG: 2.48
Differential: 0.050
Intermediate Diff: .021

The Absolute Power is Storm’s newest addition to it’s Premier line and the Solid version of the Absolute. The original Absolute was very conditional for me and could become very over/under but with the R2S Deep Solid Reactive Cover on the Absolute Power, that issue is now gone. The Absolute Power is now the first ball out of my bag, as it is very strong in the Midlane with a very continuous, but predictable motion on backend. For me this reminds me of a stronger Phaze II reaction that I would throw on more of a Medium to Heavy oil lane condition. This is definitely going to be one of the more popular releases on the year.

Bowler Stats:
Speed: 15.5 MPH
Rev Rate: 250 RPM
Tilt: 6.6 degrees
Axis Rotation: 80 degrees
PAP: 4 5/8 over 1 5/8 up

Layout:  5 X 3 X 21/2 VLS

Video Review:  https://youtu.be/FVGFjZvRalg

I matched up well with the original Summit so when the Summit Peak was released I knew I wanted to see how well this ball would compliment the Summit. The TX-23 pearl cover stock seems slightly weaker than the TX-16 pearl that is featured on the Journey. The A.I. Tech in the core gives me the same mid lane reaction as the Summit but pearl cover adds some length from front to back.

The layout featured on this ball gives me the length and quicker motion off the dry that I need on the lower volume house shots in my area. This layout also allows me to stay to the right during the transition of the house shot during league. I can start with the Journey in the track area then when it becomes too early I can change to the Summit Peak and have more length and sharper back end motion off the end of the pattern.

I have not changed the surface on this piece at all. I just let the amount of games remove the polish. I have not used this ball on any PBA 50 patterns yet as the 2024 PBA 50 Tour season has just begun.

Roto Grip – Attention Star
Layout 4.5 x 4.5 x 1
Style – stroker
Ball Speed – 14-15 mph at pins
Condition – house pattern - HPL surface
Surface – box condition

Interesting piece so far…when it’s looked good it’s been great. But, when it hasn’t…ugh.  I’d decided to drill a couple new balls with stronger pins and buffers to get different motion. Seems I need a little more help as I get older in creating some different shapes.
As I move left across the lane, I can get it to blow right through the break point. Which is surprising as I don’t have much ball speed any longer. I’d expected something different reaction wise. However, staying further right, more in the dry, it picks up and continues very well.
My VEBO sees the spot better and allows me movement left. But I did lightly hit the surface on the VEBO with a used 4k pad. Wanted to wait until I bowled a tournament this past weekend to hit the Attention Star. It’s going to happen this week. Hopefully, that brings it alive and closer to what my expectations were when drilling.
As far as recommendations are concerned now, I’d see this as very useful for lower rev players that prefer to stay right. Will get through the fronts and continue with core strength. I haven’t seen any higher rev players in my area roll this piece. Would assume rev dominant players would enjoy it. But higher speed players would need to crack the shell to use in the puddle.
Not sure that I’m going to need both the Attention Star and VEBO in a bag. If you rotate a small arsenal I would see the same thing. Higher level tournament players it could make sense to have both.
