900 SERIES ?
« on: June 03, 2008, 09:04:59 AM »
Ron Case really wishes that the tournament he bowled on Saturday night was not a 9-pin no tap tournament because he would have accomplished something that very few bowlers have.  Here is the email that Ron sent us.

Hey guys

Just wanted to let you know that the Cell is still killing the pins out here. Last night I was bowling a local tournament at Delta bowl. It's too bad it was no-tap, but I shot a natural 300 game 1, then a natural 300 game 2, then another natural 300 game 3 to have a natural 900 3 game series. Game 4 started with a natural strike for 37 consecutive natural strikes before I left a 10 pin in frame 2 of game 4 for my first no-tap of the night. By this time everybody in the tournament and a lot of by-standers were watching every shot. I wasn't very nervous however knowing that this was a no-tap tournament, but even so it will be a night to remember. Ironically an old friend I had not seen in years had stopped by to see me because he is going to start bowling again and wanted to ask me about equipment. I think he will be buying a Cell as will several others that were talking to me last night.

Thanks again and again for the best ball ever made.

Ron Case

P.S. My feeling is anyone who buys a new ball other than a Cell should be suspended from USBC for sandbagging because they will not get as many pins as if they bought a Cell.

Ron Case, who is a member of the Roto Grip Staff and resides in Oakley, California, has a total of 47 sanctioned 300's and 26 sanctioned 800's.

Im so glad people are brainwashed to thinking that if they buy a new ball they will carry everything. And its even funnier when im carrying with my 15 year old ball and they're going flat ten.

Roger,

I thought I had heard the new USBC rules state that if you bowl something 9pin no tap and shoot 300/900 natural it did count. Like I said it was just something I heard..

If it's sanctioned competition and the strikes are legit and not no-taps, then it counts.  I have been told that honest 300s shot as part of a league's end-of-year festivities can be counted since the festivities are considered part of the league.  Since the games aren't bowled under the same rules as the rest of the league, they won't count towards averages but if it was part of a sanctioned league, it should count.

as long as there all legit and there are no changes to the score if its approved its all good had a guy last season shoot a 298 that way after the eleventh his teammate let him know it would count

I have seen a local guy get a 300 award even though it was bowled in a NoTap tournament. It was indeed a NATURAL 300. hE MIGHT WANT TO CHECK INTO IT. HE MIGHT BE SUPRISED.

I know that if a natural 300 is shot in the no-tap league at my home house it counts. Definately check into it, as that is some awesome bowling and he definately deserves to be rewarded for it.

Unfortunately the tournament he bowled at Delta Bowl was not sanctioned.  The house didn't apply for USBC sanctioning.

But still how cool is that!

Just another WAY TO GO RON!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not surprised with the score and really expect it to happen again (hopefully in league or a tournament) I've been drilling his equipment for almost 30 years starting when he was a jr. bowler here at Delta Bowl.

Amazing shooting nonetheless!!  (And while I'm not likely to bowl that well, it makes me feel good to know I'm throwing the same ball as him. )

Can no tap leagues even be sanctioned? Shelly?

My no-tap league is not sanctioned. How would the USBC be able to post averages for it on USBC.com?

The no-tap tournaments done as the last week of a regular league are sanctioned if the league itself is sanctioned.  However, I have no idea about stand-alone no-tap tournaments.

Yes a league can be certified. My local center has been running a 9-pin no tap league for several years during the summer it is the biggest league during the summer. So far this summer season we have had a True 290 & True 300. All you have to do is fax a copy of the award application along with a printout of the game sheet to USBC. For the average's they do not get enter into the winlabs program. So they would not be sent to USBC Headquarters.
