A few new pieces to add to my collection
« on: December 05, 2005, 01:57:28 AM »
Got 3 new pieces within the last few months.  Just thought that I would share.

Epic:

SSP:

SSSE:

I know the pics aren't the greatest, I just wanted to give everyone a visual of my layouts.

The Epic is one of the baddest pieces that I have ever thrown or seen thrown for that matter.  Even with the pin as high as I have it, this ball reads the lane sooo early.  If there is light heads or anything short of a flood, FORGET about it.  This ball is going to burn up before it hits 30 feet.  But on the right condition(Heavy Oil) This ball is incredible.  I have foudnt that it is very continous and rolls very heavy, so a few 9's in a set are inevitable. But other than the 9's the carry is GREAT.

The SSP, what can I say?? A pure classic.  I bought this one used for $30 at my pro shop. I wasn't too found of the drill, but I didn't want to do a full plug so I was left with what you see.  But I was VERY impressed with this ball. Its not like any other particle I have ever thrown, it give you great length and a hard arc that I would swear was a resin piece.  I think that the biggest thing that I love about this ball is its ability to retain energy down the lane, even when its a little spotty, without burning up.

That brings me to the SSSE.  One word CONTROL!  I Wanted something that wasn't going to jump too hard on me but give me a nice read at the breakpoint.  This drill is it. This drill is so stable, I went with a slightly negative pin, to delay the reaction just a tad.  But man this ball is a true monster.  Its so smooth and even and it hits like a truck.  I have seen quite a few people stating that they are looking for a control piece, well this is it.  Its reaction compliments my Ressurection beautifully, where my ressurection sits right under my SSSE, as long as there is some dry.  But if its a little more oily the solid coverstock of the Retro is a better fit.

But again, I am VERY impressed with Roto Grip.  I live by them, keep up the good work fellas.  For everyone that doesn't know, there are pics of all my balls and layouts in my profile for your viewing pleasure.

I'm with RotoDave on the Silver Streak SE.  Didn't measure it exactly, but it's supposed to be a 4 x 2.5 (same as my favorite Nighthawk M2).  Hardly a flip drilling, but man, don't even think of getting in it's way when it makes it's move.  Threw it about a game and a half this afternoon.  After a few warmups to find a line, threw 8 in a row, then a smash 7-9, then a 9 after moving in a few boards.  The 10 pin was never even a consideration.  Most impressive hit I've ever seen from a ball right out of the box!  Unfortunately, my normal league shot is too dry to use it.  Anyone without a bunch of hand that wants a ball that they can get a bunch of recovery with needs to consider the SE.

I need to get my SS Particle refitted with my new span and pitches.  Might be a good piece for the PBA tournaments I'm finding.  I need something between my oilers and my medium stuff.

Maybe I'll even get off my duff and take some pictures as well.

Jeff, yeah thats exactly the reaction I get outta the SSSE, gotta LOVE IT

Roto Dave:  I'll get you my PAP, it slips my mind at the moment.  I dunno why. Dummy me.  As far as the long pins, I just take what they gimme, I'm not scared of short pins, one of my favorite balls had about a 1 inch pin, good old storm hot wire.

I'm going to try to get some vids and post them.

thanks BMM,.....

Strider,...funny.....4x2.5 would NOT expect to be flippy....Streaks are just strong,...period!

Has anyone drilled an SSSE (or original solid) that was strong AND smooth ?! Aside from putting the pin at 2" ?

Jeff a friend of mine has one of the smoothest original SS's I have ever seen.  Pin was negative, over the middle finger and the MB was about 1/4 inch right of the thumb.  Smoothest reaction I have ever seen, now he does like to spin the ball somtimes, but it was smooth none the less.  He actually got it off of Delutz a while back after a tournament when Delutz was chucking balls into the crown. LOL
