Good luck. I've been trying everything and haven't found it yet.  But I did pick up a nib nomad last week.  The crossroad was close in motion for me but the Nomad handled oil better, the crossroad needed to see more friction.
The Nomad is my favorite ball of all time. I have never found anything as versatile for me

It isn't often that I say this....but I disagree a bit with Charlest on this post.

I never rolled a Nomad that fit me, but did and do still own a Silver Streak solid.  Same core but weaker coverstock. http://www.bowlersparadise.com/shop/balls/roto_grip/roto_grip_nomad_solid.shtml

I also now own a Rising Star, a Tropical Heat Solid, and a 900 global Hook Blue/Blue.

I find the balls listed to be similar but less than the Silver Streak and I would guess less than the stronger coverstocked Nomad.

With specs of 2.55 and a diff of .054 and the smooth Suregrip the Silver Streak is a great ball but a ball for medium heavy oil.

The other balls are listed above are mostly in the 2.57 and .038 to .040 diff area.  with admittedly stronger coverstocks.  They are all great balls just a different look.

Most of the balls listed by Charlest for the same bowler are going to produce near close to an inch less flare than the Nomad if drilled in a 4 1/2 inch position.

As a big fan of smooth and powerful Suregrip coverstock(I love my Sonic Boom(Suregrip 2) and Sonic X solid(Sure grip) I consider these newer balls maybe similar but different.  The newer listed balls above not quite as core strong and the Nomad more core strength and a similar strength coverstock.

I wonder if maybe the Disturbed is closer?

Hmmmm?

For yours and Charlest consideration.

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS my Nomad and Nomad pearl continue to wait for me in my garage, My Silver Streak may get another run based on the discussion above for my medium to lighter condition wet dry(only 35 feet to start!)

Berserk... ugly as sin, but I don't think it would take much of a tweak to get similar results to a fresh Nomad.

The main problem here is that compared to today's coverstocks, the Nomad's is relatively weak. The core has little effect, even if the it allows a flare of 7 -8", if the coverstock doesn't permit the ball to grab the lane.

The Nomad's coverstock is roughly equivalent to that of the Shout, one of Roto-Grip's weakest current balls.

So while my suggestions may not have cores as strong as the Nomad's core, their overall ball reaction will be closer on today's oil than many others.

I submit this for Lucky Lefty's consideration.

The Berserk will be so much stronger than a Nomad on today's oils, even if it were polished. If the original poster wanted the "Equivalent" ball to the Nomad, then I'd agree with a polished Berserk. But He wanted the closest to the Nomad.

I'll have to match my Silver Streak, ready to roll against my Tropical heat solid at my house (strong wet dry )shot and see the look.

I think I will be forced deeper by flare of the Nomad core in the Silver streak but may not see the recovery needed.  Of course because it is so humungous wet dry Suregrip sure has looked plenty enough there so it may not be a good comparison.

I think we are speaking the same language.  Flare potential of the newer balls listed 3 to 4 inches and of the Nomads over 5 inches.

I throw my Nomads at 4000 and have thrown a Beserk at 4000. I found the Beserk to be much earlier with not as much continuation down lane.  I also didn't find it stronger than the Nomad. I have seen the Disturbed and believe that ball would be stronger with that cover looking much stronger.  I also have had a Rising Star that I didn't like, drilled the same as my first Nomad that wasn't  even in the same category as the Nomad.
As I mentioned in my last post, the crossroad to me has a similar motion but needs to see much more friction. That makes me curious to see how the Victory Road Solid would have compared, although I'm guessing weaker.
I often hear people think the Nomad is weaker than it actually is. I find the ball to handle oil very well cause it reads the lane great. I have had a Nomad since it first came out and have tried to replace it more times than I can count, and have never found a ball that matches my game as well. It keeps finding its way back into my bag. This weekend I shot 660 and 663 with it. I have owned three with three different drilling ( 65x4x35, 50x4.5x70 and 40x5x45) And thrown them with multiple surfaces and I have loved them all.
I still own the pin down(50x4.5x70) and own a NIB. If anyone knows of any other NIB around I will buy right now.

I have seen the Beserk also and thought of it's reaction as rounded.  The Nomads and Silver streaks have an angular portion to their move I believe as evidenced by their core shape.

Also, as you mentioned above, a lot of continuation in to the pin deck.

They look like a little much for me with my 60 degree axis rotation but I've seen those with 40 degrees and less get a lot of utility out of them.

A shooting star drilled for maximum backend and same surface preparation should yield a very close reaction to the nomadic solid. Or if you are willing to, the reign of power with polish may be even closer.

I agree with your assesment on the Reign of Power.  Not as much on the .040 differential Shooting Star.

What if that shooting star had a p4 weight hole? That should kick the differential up quite a bit.

The reign of power looks very strong upfront and not as continuous on the back.  Of course I haven't seen one live.
