Cover adjustment on the Odyssey
« on: April 01, 2008, 04:08:37 PM »
I picked up a used Odyssey last fall to experiment with it. I tend to have to much speed and not much hand so I thought the Odyssey could allow me play a little deeper than my standard down the board shot.

I originally had it drilled pin below the fingers with the MB directly under the thumb. I left the cover OOB. The ball did not flare and it just went straight. We tried a X-hole but it didn't help much.  I did some lurking and reading and decided to try a different layout.

The next drilling put the pin above and between the fingers with the MB slightly to the right of the thumb (I calculated it to be around 55 degrees). The cover was adjusted to 800 and we added a small x-hole. This time the ball did flare but the movement was so-so. Still not what I thought the ball had the potential of providing by reading the posts. I continued to read and talk with others and it finally dawned on me that maybe the ball was just to strong, even for someone with no hand as myself.

Tonight I adjusted the cover with a 4000 Abralon pad and applied Bean Sauce to turn the orb into a shiny pellet. I noticed a significant difference from the first practice ball. I was able to play alittle deeper than I would normally play but not to the extent of feeling uncomforable. The big backend movement was what I was looking for.

I ended up shooting 224 (split/open in the 10th), 267 (clean) and 263 (1 open).

I thought I would share my trial and error effort in case someone else isn't seeing the potential they think the Odyssey should be giving them. Thank you to all the knowledgeable people out there that aren't afraid to share their thoughts and information with others. Sometimes it takes me longer to figure out what your saying and that it can also apply to me.
