Got my Cell and Pluto....
« on: February 04, 2008, 01:36:50 PM »
I went and picked up my new bowling balls today.  The Cell and the Pluto.

I got the Cell to be my heavier oil ball and the Pluto to be under my Black Widow Pearl for tournaments.  My complete arsenal is listed in my profile.

I am a lefty, throw 16 pounds, I have more speed than revs, but not by much.

I have my Cell drilled in what would be considered about a 4x4 with a pretty deep weight hole.  It places the pin above and left of the ring and the cg stacked below.  The MB is below and slightly left of the thumb.

The Pluto is a standard label drill, which would be I am guessing a 4x3 or 4x2 drilling for me.  I track really high, but am not completely sure of my PAP.  No weight hole was necessary.  This is the type of drilling I always get on my lower end equipment and it seems to work well, so I stuck with it.

Now that being said he is my first impressions of each:

The Cell when thrown correctly is very strong and predictible.  Any ball I got out of clean, and did not shoot past the break point was a strike for me.  I left one 7 pin, and one 7-10 pocket hit when I shot it past the break.  I left a couple 6 pins from it coming up really strong.  Overall for the first time I am pretty excited to get some practice with it and see what it can do.  I was bowling on wood tonight, so Friday I'll be on synthetics and be able to compare reactions.  If I were to compare it to anything as of now (remember first impression) I would say a stronger Ultimate Inferno.  I had pins jumping out of the gutter taking pins out, and I had never seen that before.  I hope it continues and it is not just because it's brand new.  I was able to use it the entire first game, and most of the 2nd, and if I had moved in further right I could have used it all night, but what fun is buying 2 new balls if you don't use them both?

The Pluto is basically a perfect fit under the Cell.  I knew once I was throwing warm-ups I had a very nice 1-2 punch.  The Pluto carries very well, and has a nice smooth strong roll to it.  It might be too strong for what I needed it for, but because it is so smooth I will be able to get a lot of use out of it.  I left 7 pins if I was not lined up right and a 6 pin if I got slow with it, but that's expected.  Once I got lined up the ball was lights out.  Last game using it and it only I went XX81XXXXX9/XXX-245.  The 8-1 I tugged and left a baby split and chopped it and the 9/ I got slow and left a 6.

I had never thrown a Roto-Grip ball before and have been using primarily Hammer since the Widow series came out.  All the talk on here about the Cell and the success it has had on TV got the best of me and I had to try it out.  At the price point it is at, you can't really lose.  I almost felt like I was cheating using the Cell, but once I can tame it, I think I am really going to enjoy it.

The Pluto I chose because I needed something weaker for bigger back end shots.  Most of the weaker pieces I have owned were polished or pearls and they just flew on me on the backs, so I figured a weaker solid would be more smooth and less jumpy.  Hammer doesn't have anything like that, so the choice was the Pluto.  So far it looks very good.

I am not going to say either hits like a mack truck, or after using them one time either ball is the greatest thing ever, but I am impressed with everything on both balls so far.

Now I'll look forward to seeing how these balls work after some use.

Sorry for this being so long, but hopefully the spaces between paragraphs will make it easier on your eyes

If you have any questions or if I left anything out that you would like to know about, let me know and I will do my best.
