Haywire strength
« on: April 15, 2016, 03:12:01 PM »
I already hate myself for asking this question since I know the off-topic and troll responses I might get, but I have to ask the question anyway, so here goes. Please be gentle...

I keep seeing favorable reports about the Haywire being a strong ball in medium or heavier, but as a low rev lefty, the concept of a .043 differential ball getting into a heavy roll is foreign to me. I know that cover stock is 72.87436% of the reaction, but that is still dependent on the core getting into a decent roll. Yet I keep hearing of balls that I would normally consider stronger being weaker than a Haywire. To be fair, I have seen several Haywire's rolled by both high average players with 400+ revs and a few low rev as well, but they are all right-handers, and where they bowl plastic can be used to hook the house, so I can't tell from that.

And, to make it worse, let's add the IQ series into the mix.

Are there any low rev players out there, and if left-handed even better, who have had success with the Haywire (or IQ for that matter). I did see Curlie Becton's video on Haywire, and admit it looked good, but what's real?

Thanks in advance for your constructive responses.

From what ive seen, a lefty on my teams just got the hy-wire. first 2 sets out of box were 796-824. idk if he regularly cleans or not, but the 2weeks since he hasnt shot over 620. From my observations, the HyWire is great for medium conditions and maybe medium-drier and thats it. Heavier and carrydown are this balls enemies. But get on right condition, this ball strikes for days. But isnt that all balls out these days.

He's asking about the Haywire.  The Hy-Wire is a different ball.

I am a lefty with about 300 rpm and 16.5 mph, so I am a little bit speed dominant, and I love my Haywire. For house shots it is a great ball if your house has a decent amount of oil and if you don't play up the boards, I can use the ball playing 10-10 almost all night if I am the only lefty on the pair, sometimes it reads too early and then I have to move or change ball, but don't let the differential influence your decision, this ball will roll early and it is very continuous, I have a Forza and I love it too, it has more differential than the Haywire but for me they are close, being the Forza smoother and earlier than the Haywire, while the Haywire has more backend for me, I also have Forza at 2K and Haywire 3K so i can use them for different conditions. By the way, I used this ball on a 39 ft flat oil pattern on a tournament and the ball was AMAZING at 1K... So if I were you I would definitely buy one!

I hope this helps.

Thanks L3nn0n. I also appreciate the Forza comparison, since I was looking at Motiv and my Havoc's been a disappointment. One thing though... I do tend to play fairly up the boards, what didn't you like? Needed more oil, the ball likes to swing, crossed over playing straight... Can you elaborate? Also, if you please, PAP and layout????
Thanks

If you play up the boards my guess is that this ball will be too much and it will either burn up or be too strong leaving you splits, washouts, etc, I try to play at least 10 or 12 with the Haywire. My PAP is 5 7/8 over and 1/2 up and my layout is 65x4.5x40

The HAYWIRE is the real deal.  Strong symmetrical and way better than the optimus solid! I have no clue how they coulda improved upon the disturbed but they did!

Here's my review of both the Haywire and Hy-Wire...and the video is of a lefty, me!

http://tamerbowling.com/roto-grip-hy-wire-and-haywire-bowling-ball-review/

I love both balls.  The Haywire is definitely a strong ball but not one where I have felt it is doesn't store enough energy to drive through the pins, as compared to many top end asym balls that sometimes just die being too strong.

Hy-Wire is easier to use for me on a medium house shot since I can play more direct.  It's just less work.  On the nationals team pattern, the Haywire is awesome.  The Hy-wire is a really nice step down as well.  Gives the same look but just cleaner through the heads.

These balls just roll so nice, I absolutely love them right now.  These are balls that I can trust, meaning I know it will move down lane so I relax.  The more I relax, the better I throw the ball.  Those are the kind of balls you have to have in your bag, whether it's these or any others.

I'm left handed with medium revs and speed and like the hay wire a lot it revs up fairly easy and is continuous. I don't get much play out of my haywire due to where I bowl which is why it's in my locker and not my bag. I bowl on wood lanes with guardian fronts so it tends to burn up for me on most night but I have used it in other houses on synthetic and it is a monster
In bag now, no rules , code black, code red , timeless , and fight and of course spare ball lol
In locker, ride and punch out

What tamer said goes for the right side as well. Mostly use oneof the two with a 100+ game Hyroad for the tracked up condition.
