why does RotoGrip charge so much...
« on: June 14, 2007, 12:11:57 AM »

Hey Group

Why does RotoGrip charge so much for some of their RG shirts??  these are the ones I have been dooling over,  Horizon Solid Shirt - Pique Polo Shirt -  Epic Saga Shirt.

Although the "RS-P Shirt" is doable

I'm sure Roger might chime in, but in general, they are a better quality shirt than some of the other vendors have offered.  I don't know if the three areas of logo stitching are unique to them in the current era or not, but that also adds to the expenses associated with manufacturing.

The shirts I got from them when we still had a tour are still in good shape.

Their prices don't seem that out of line.
I've got probably a dozen of them.
They wear nice and don't hinder the armswing during bowling.

You get what you pay for I guess.

I think all top of the line bowling shirts are way too expensive.  I thought BrunsNick's Brunswick shirts were very high also.  Roto does discount after a while, so keep checking the site.  I got a great Roto Retro shirt for $40 (usually sell for $50+) and a polo for a ball from the previous year for $18.  Both are very nice quality, but I don't have any other manufacturer to compare to.

Some of them are only $10.  That's awesome.

You can also design your own shirts on their website as well so you can use a cheaper shirt and put a Horizon logo on it if you want.  They are very nice shirts that last a long time.

But even designing your own they don't have a "cheap" shirt.  I think the cheapest I saw was 52 bucks.  Big Jake, I just wait for the end of year clearance, you can get them for real cheap then but usually by then you aren't throwing that ball any longer...LOL.

I'm thinking they make every shirt to order.  I mean of course they have the blank shirts(which are of very high quality).  But as with everything, when you manufacture in small quantities the price has to be higher.  It'd cost a couple million dollars for you to buy the equipment/materials to make one ink pen.

I'm sure they have stock shirts.
Just the RG logo on polo or mock neck.
But the specific ball shirts will be higher priced.
More stitching involved.

I'd be more than happy to explain the shirt prices.  In Bowling we have more levels of distribution then most industries.  As the manufacturer we sell our products to a bowling distributor who wholesales our products along with others to pro shops.  The pro shops have to be able to mark up the product to a retail price that fits their margins.  We try to offer a retail price that should work for the pro shops to follow.

I could sell the shirts cheaper, but then I would be under-cutting the pro shops which are as much my customers as the end users are.  We do try to offer some cheaper shirts in the 30 and 40.00 range.  When we launch our new site in a week you will see the new apparel line up and I believe 3 or 4 shirts are in the 40 - 50.00 range.

We are currently closing out last years shirts along with some discontinued ball shirts at below cost prices to move out that older inventory.

The customization is much more expensive, but a great feature.  We will have a whole new website devoted just to that in the next few months.

It all depends on the shirts you choose. If you want a cheaper run of the mill cotton pique, then $35.00 shipped can get it to your door. However, some prefer bowling in more comfortable Poly, Cotton/Poly, and Poly/Spandex blends... which carry a premium pricetag.

You really get what you pay for with shirts, and I can't really put a price on being completely comfortable when I bowl.

Nick hit it dead on.  I can probably put a shirt in the line that retails for 29.95, but the quality just doesn't cut it.  Tight solid material in a Hanes model.

We buy premium shirts.  You will have to check out the new Revolution Polos by Holloway we have out this year.  The material is silky smooth and so comfortable on your skin.

Check out the new site next week!
