Initial Trick Impression
« on: March 15, 2017, 09:45:56 PM »
Holy Cow! (That is all lol)
No seriously, I'm thoroughly impressed. Very smooth in reaction, hits hard, and didn't over-react. My first game -shot front six....and then got a little excited that I could shoot 300....and let my speed pick up just a hair. Left a 10, and struck out. I'll attach photos of the layout. Nice job RG!

I have the DD and use it most of the time because it just flat out works so good! I will probably get the Trick, but not until fall. Unless R/G comes out with a hybrid version then I may go with that.

Alright, guys I have the DareDevil already and have 300/782 with it on a modified house shot.  I recently purchased the Torrent, would there be any reason to have the Torren and the Trick???????

Some overlap but you could play with drillings and surface for some separation.

DDT has a low RG core, the Torrent has a much higher RG.  You could drill these two the same and the DDT will roll and pick up the lane much sooner than the Torrent. Core strength is similar. Cover changes would certainly have a major impact.

A couple days ago in a Facebook Live video Schlemmer and Stu Williams were talking about the Dare Devil and Dare Devil Trick, but the Torrent came up for a second too. Stu said that it the the Dare Devil Trick were similar but the Torrent is longer down the lane. Which makes sense given the core differences. Probably won't be many other differences but that is a significant one.

They've actually done a couple of videos the past two days that are really good and not just a bunch of hype for Roto Grip.

I agree. I wish we got this kind of feedback/footage with all their releases. Not just a quick flashy marketing video.

I get what everyone is saying about wanting better, more honest reviews, but what can we expect? If a rep from a company doesn't match up well with a ball, do you really expect him or her to say, "our new $225 high-end ball sucks; it rolled like a turd for me!" Their job is to sell bowling balls. Would some honesty/transparency be nice? Of course it would, but, in the end, they're in business to move product. Staffers only stay staffers if the company thinks that they're helping the company sell gear. As such, as much as I'd like to see better, more honest comparisons instead of hype and fluff, I don't expect the company and its reps to do anything other than try to draw me in and get me to buy their stuff.

With all of that said, I'm very intrigued by the Daredevil Trick. It appears to have the old Storm Turbine Core in it. I liked a few balls with that core, so I may have to give that one a shot!

I definitely understand why reviews pretty much always trend towards promoting whatever ball as the best ever and better than the previous. That's just how marketing and selling works. I was just pointing out that the two videos they did are worth watching. Nothing earth-shattering (or likely new to some of the more well-versed around here) of course, just some decent information on not only the Dare Devil and Dare Devil Trick but ball types and ball motions in general.

This is how I was referencing it as well. I don't expect staffers to put out negative reviews. I just want more "interesting?" Videos about new balls aside the hype videos. Show me stuff about how it plays into their current line up. Talk about the design approach.

There are a couple that are honest. Look at the Luke Rosdahl review of the timeless. He flat out says the ball isn't good for him. However he points to a couple other reviews in which the ball is perfect for certain people.

Those reviews are out there, just gotta search. Personally I'd rather an all positive ball review over the ones where it's literally just videos of the ball going down lane from different camera angles. I wanna hear people talk about their reaction to the ball
