New summer Roto Grip releases
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:52:42 PM »
Roto Grip has 5 new balls coming out this summer.  One addition to the Royal line,  one Sword line ball, one Shield Line ball, and 2 balls for a brand new entry level line below the Shield line.

We know about the Defiant, and in my opinion, it's the best heavy oil ball I've thrown to date.  Yes, even more so than the Virtual Gravity Nano that I sold.

Now it looks like the Critical Theory may be next to be replaced.  Seen on buddiesproshop.com: the Defiant Edge.  This will use a MicroBite pearl cover with the Paragon Core and is designed to be used on medium to medium-heavy oil.

It will be interesting to see how this will compare with the Critical Theory.  Big difference between the new Defiant Edge and Critical is that the Critical goes with the sanded 4000AB finish and the new Edge will go with 1500 polished.

Beyond that, it will be interesting to see if a hybrid Defiant comes out down the line.

Now, I was throwing the Nomad Dagger for a while, and it was an excellent hybrid ball in their Sword Line.  We know it was discontinued as the Outlaw and Bandit both arrived prior to this past season.  Well, RG now has a new hybrid option available.  The Berserk will use a hybrid cover along with the Camber core and will round out that line.

Big difference I see with this hybrid is that it will be able to handle some medium-heavy conditions, whereas the Nomad Dagger was strictly a medium oil hybrid.  That's a great thing because it will allow more flexibility on conditions when people need a little more backend pop but a not as much length as a pearl.

Those who like the Shooting Star or Rising Star will now have a new option in the Shield line.  The Shatter will use the Neutron core but have a pearl cover that is going to be a touch weaker than the existing Rising Star.

Now for those who liked the Dark Star being able to handle the dry and didn't like when there was no option once the Rising Star came out or for those who have thrown the Grenade but wished there was something a little stronger,  Roto Grip has finally decided to come out with a light oil ball.  Not just one light oil ball, but 2 of them.  This would give Roto Grip a brand new entry level lineup not seen since the Mars, Riot, and Dark Star were discontinued and something comparable to Storm's Tropical Heat lineup.

The Shout is the new light oil solid reactive.  The Scream is a light oil pearl.  Both of these will also use the Neutron core, but feature weaker solid and pearl covers than the Shield line.

I as well have been waiting for something below the Rising Star/Dark Star line for awhile.....I wished they brought the Orbiter Core back but we shall see how weak the Scream/Shout really is....

When I saw the Shout and Scream had the same core as the Star balls, I wondered how weak they could be.
BUT then,
I just looked more closely at the description on Buddies web site: their differential is MUCH, much lower at .022" compared to the Star's .042". That should help them hook a lot less and handle more dry. Yet, as you imply, the telling will be in how much dry the new coverstock can handle.

Yea I noticed the numbers but it seems every new release is stronger than the ball it replaces. The numbers on the Scream arent that far off the Neptune numbers so it performs close to it, it will be a great addition to the line.

look at the disk at the bottom of the core, different colors in pictures makes me bet its a different weight/density/composite making it weaker

I think we needed the "kick in the pants" with the new releases.... We Are Roto Grip DARN IT... We are more on the "EDGE" then any other ball company out there. We love progressive cores and KICK BUTT cover stocks...  Colors catches people's eyes... Good or Bad they will pull people in in... Does the Storm Frantic come to mind when it came out with such bright colors??? Number 1 selling ball of the year!!!
Cannot wait to drill mine when they arrive this up coming weeks and as usual I will post my reviews on here and on facebook... You can friend me on facebook, just look up Roto Grip Rick.............

Just like the colors on the Defiant.  It's not the prettiest ball ever made, but it's performance makes it the best damn heavy oil ball I have ever thrown.  That core and cover match up so well with my game and I found it to be really versatile on multiple conditions, which is a bonus.  Plus, it doesn't die on the backend like my VG Nano did, which would leave me with nasty solid splits or bad carry.

It will be interesting to see what the Defiant Edge can do.  Then, if RG can come out with a hybrid version, that would be 1 awesome line.
