Roto Grip Optimum Idol
« on: April 12, 2024, 08:21:33 PM »
Roto Grip’s Optimum Idol is a remake of the every so loved and missed Idol. It features MicroTrax Solid cover and the famous Ikon core with AI tech. I drilled mine 5 x 5 x 3 and this is exactly how I drilled my first Idol back in the day and I was super excited for this one. When I first started to throw it, it reminded me of the original one. It gave me a clean motion through the fronts for a solid but made a nice aggressive motion in the back part of the lane. This ball will be very versatile for me as I will be able to use it on the fresh and as the second or third ball out of my bag depending on the pattern length and volume. If you loved the Idol then your going to want to run to pick up the Optimum Idol today!

Roto Grip Optimum Idol – WWRD 3/22/2024

Roto Grip Optimum Idol – WWRD 3/22/2024 Cover: MicroTrax Solid Reactive Core: Ikon + A.I. Core Technology RG: 2.47 RG. Diff.: 0.056 Finish: 2000-Grit Abralon Roto Grip’s new is a Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium Volume Patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin above the bridge and the CG kicked out 1” from the palm. I threw this piece on a burned up house 43’ pattern. Out of box ball motion was that it started early in the mids with a continuous motion on the backend. I compared this piece to the Hustle RIP (3-3 Right) and Tour Dynam-X (1-1 Right). I did not throw the original Idol but I am hearing this is a similar piece to it. Check Out the Ball motion Video on my YouTube Page: https://youtu.be/iWYVY2j3KaI

Finally...the wrongs of the original Idol being discontinued have been righted!  The original Idol solid was one of the best bowling balls that Roto Grip has ever released, and the introduction of the Optimum Idol brings the Idol line back to prominence.  The addition of AI technology to the Ikon core creates a slightly stronger midlane motion – overall, I do find this Optimum Idol to be a tad bit earlier, smoother, and overall more motion than that original Idol.  That means that the Optimum Idol is absolutely perfect for heavy to medium-heavier oil conditions.  Once the lanes dry up, this ball will begin to hook too early...but, it isn't intended for those conditions anyways.

HAND: LEFT (ONE HANDED)

PAP: 4 3/8 OVER / 1/16 UP

BALL SPEED: 16MPH

REV RATE: 420

AXIS TILT: 20

AXIS ROTATION: 50

LAYOUT: 60X5X65

The Optimum Idol features the iconic Ikon core paired with A.I. Technology and Microtrax Solid as its cover stock. All I can say is wow, I’ve been looking for a symmetric ball with a bigger cover that handles the fresh with ease but not over responding to friction. This ball for me is a ball that sits in the middle of my bag between the Reality, Attention Star. When the Reality is too much ball, I'm able to go to my Idol and keep control of the mid lane but with a smoother more controllable motion. I prefer my Idol to have 1000 or 2000 on it depending on where and what were bowling on. Overall  this ball is fantastic when the lanes are a little tighter during the beginning of the match, this ball will fit many styles of players, if you’re bowling on your typical house pattern players with higher rev rates will love this ball when moving into the oil, lower rev players may lean more towards a gem or a Harsh Reality but if you’re looking for a ball down from those 2 this one is it!

The new Optimum Idol continues the Idol line with the core wrapped in AI Core Tech and with the micro track solid cover. Compared to the Idol I've found the Opitmum idol to be earlier on the lane and more shape down lane. I used the same layout on both balls my pap is 4 3/4 right and 3/4 down. The layout i used was 45x4x30 This is a great bench mark ball for anyone to add to there bag.

  Lane Condition
42ft House shot
44 Kegel Sport Shot

The new symmetrical solid in the Roto Grip HP3 line is the Optimum Idol.  I drilled mine with my favorite drilling 4.25 x 4 x 2 pin up and added Storm Step 2 to the cover.  The Optimum is the re release of the original Idol.  Which is one the most successful RG balls of all time.  For me the Optimum is very close the original Idol, it may be a little earlier due to the newer coverstock.  Same great ball reaction though, a little earlier motion and smooth arcing reaction down lane.  It is great ball for all the wet dry house shots that we
see so much in todays patterns.  I also like using the Optimum on sport to control the pocket on those flatter sport patterns.  As the optimum doesn't get off line a lot and is very controllable ball motion.  2 handers love the Optimum because of the control with all their speed and revs.  But the down and in players also can use it with success especially when playing the track area.  Thank You Schlem for bringing back the IDOL!

The Roto Grip Optimum Idol is a little bit of a cleaner reincarnation of the OG Magenta Idol. I find it still provides excellent mid lane read like the OG, but really likes to continue a lot more down lane for me. This ball fits perfectly right in the middle of the bag, and provides and excellent benchmark ball reaction. Get yours today and OWN IT!!
