Step down from a cell....
« on: May 06, 2008, 01:43:48 PM »
Right now i'm loving my cell, its really strong. And right now I'm looking at adding a few new pieces as I have some graduation money coming (hooray end of highschool lol) and really would like a piece better off the compliment it.

So any suggestions as a ball that would a step down, mainly a little stronger downlane and less overall hook potential.

If you want something to play the same part of the lane, but a pearl to move to when the Cell can't kick out the corners the gravity shift is the perfect compliment. Same factory, and they're great together.

How about a shiny solid reactive version of the Helios II core?

I like the sounds of that, really like the sounds of that.

Right now though I have penciled down ordering the Illusion and Neptune next month, and then if the ball your hinting at comes out definitely an option, as I like snappy stuff but the more consistent reacting stuff and I just seem to get along better.

Well keep your eraser handy, because if this thing is going to replace the huge shoes of the Horizon Solid, your gonna want one!

I love the Cell and have been averaging about 240 in league in the last 5 weeks. Just shot 795 this week - 249, 279 & 267. When the Cell becomes too strong I would then take out my Rival, at 2000 grit (oob is 4000) and would be able to play the same line. I also have a Gravity Shift but would have to move a few boards right from where I was playing with the Cell. Great ball also.

Nope. With those core numbers and a POLISHED solid cover, it's a replacement for the one and only Silver Streak!
(Check out the core numbers for the Illusion and the Silver Streak pearl. Different shape but both are pearls and have virtually the same core specs.)

Is this new "shiny" piece going to make an appearance at the Storm/Roto Open House event in Atlanta on May 8th?  I'll be waiting with open arms....

Now to answer the question....lol

I would think a very good step down is the Pluto to be honest.  The numbers on the ball wouldn't indicate that it is as strong as it really is.  Very nice reacting and very even.  If you like the solid look as opposed to the pearl reactive look, I would definitely look at a Pluto. Very easy surface to change.  Plus you really can't beat the price that is for sure!

Hope this helps.

What Roger describes is the Illusion if you look at the ball description.

Illusion

2000 grit polished, Helios II Core, Ultimate Vision Solid Reactive.

I want the Strike Cell to come out in the States!! Or at least a new version of the Horizon Solid.

But the Illusion is a pearl resin, not a solid.

I think most of us thought Roger was talking about the introduction of the Illusion's solid "brother".

Roto4ever,
Correct me if I'm wrong but according to the Roto Grip website the Illusion is Ultimate Vision Pearlized.

I guess I should have been a little more elaborate in my post...but hey it was late I was not trying to say that the ball Roger mentioned was going to be a direct replacement for the Horizon Solid, just in its spot in the mid price line.  I have yet to see a ball continued where a ball came out in its spot that didn't carry its own...and this case I think this ball would be a great step down from the cell. Dependent on layouts of course.

As far as a Silver Streak replacement, the numbers are verrryyy close.  But I will have to wait and see if they look the same on lane.  The Silver Streak was/is a monster of its own. But I do have a feeling that we could see a Horizon Solid remake in the future...maybe a Horizon SE? With a Hybrid cover...oh my. *Faints* with just the thought of the possibility. LOL
