Strong drilling on an Oracle?
« on: December 05, 2004, 11:48:43 PM »
I have a NIB Oracle that I want to have drilled very shortly.  I have read numerous reviews that state how well this ball gets through the heads for a dull particle.  I am just curious if anyone has maxed-out (or put a strong drilling on) their Oracle.  If so, what drilling it is, how do you like it, and does it ever roll-out?

Thanks in advance.

I drilled an Oracle with a fairly strong layout.
Stacked with the pin next to my ring finger and the CG just below the midline.
Had to put a crater in it to bring it back to legal.
The ball had a 3in pin with 3.5 oz. of top weight to start.

I left the ball in box finish and it rolls pretty good like this.
The only issues I've had with this ball are on carrydown conditions then I go from swinging it to a more direct/ down and in line. This usually overcomes the carrydown.
For me this is a very good ball and fits into my arsenal nicely.
free agency it is until i get a better offer.   LMAO

Sir,
like any ball....if it' s used on the wrong condition,...it can roll out...however........

The best question would be this.....what are your intentions for the ball....what kind of lanes are you looking to use it on and what reaction are you looking for ?

Obviously you're looking for a fairly heavy shot, and a fairly angular backend finish.....yes?

Bass, your post worries me a bit in that it sounds like your stacked drilling (12:00 leverage) isn't as aggressive as I figured it would be on this ball.  I was thinking about putting a 12:00 leverage (stacked) drill on mine figuring that would be my answer to swinging the ball a good amount and watching it roar back and completely obliterate the rack...hmmmmmmmm

Jeffrevs, I want to be able to swing this ball a lot.  I am currently using a label drilled Vendetta Particle which works well enough for me to avg. over 200, but sometimes doesn't have enough to play through the oil as much as I want it to.  I bowl in one house that has synthetics with a pretty good amount of oil.  Sometimes the shot can be streaky (or sloppy if you will) however there is always a lot of oil upfront and inside of the first arrow.  But all in all, I want a ball that will roll hard from start to finish.  I do not have a ball with an angular backend, so I am thinking maybe I should try one or drill one that does.

I'd go with a strong drilling (mb in the strong position) if you're looking at swinging......

The patterns I usually try and use this ball on usually 40+ ft. or more.
If I try it on anything shorter than that I'll be crossing the arrows at 20-25 and swinging it to 10. The ball doesn't rollout for me sometimes it just runs out of lane length to make its recovery.
