TNT Infused Review
« on: October 26, 2023, 01:31:17 PM »
Layout: 5 x 3 x 5
Surface: Reacta Gloss

The TNT Infused brings back the Torpex Core with the new Etrax Plus Hybrid Coverstock.  I was pretty skeptical about this ball initially because of how early and smooth the original TNT was.  It made the ball pretty pattern specific for me.  The new TNT Infused with the Reacta Gloss finish really made a big difference.  I went with an opposite drilling with the infused (pin down) compared to a pin up in the TNT just to see a difference in overall ball shape.  I was glad that I did.  I got to test this ball on a 44ft Typical House shot and a 42ft 32ml sport pattern.

On the typical house pattern, I saw clean through the front with a strong midlane roll and ample continuation downlane.  It is a ball reaction I enjoy seeing with my higher speed and high rev rate style.  On the fresh, the responsiveness of the ball made carry a little tough as some shots got too far down the lane and others were too responsive off the friction.  Taking the reacta gloss off the cover would allow me to use this more on the fresh.  As the pattern started to develop, the ball naturally started to be more in its comfort zone.  The strong midlane roll allowed me to be further away from the friction which is my strong suit.  This allowed me to miss more in the oil and not over hook as much when I got the ball to the friction a little sooner.  It blended the lanes quite well the further left I got with my feet.  I do recommend this ball more as a transition ball for most styles unless you add surface to the cover because then it would be a little smoother for the fresh.  If you liked the TNT and want a similar ball with more pop down lane, this would be a no brainer ball.  In my opinion, the Infused can be much more versatile then the original TNT.

On the 42ft Sport Pattern, it gave very similar results as the house pattern.  The Reacta Gloss made it tough to use on the fresh as there was too much length out of the ball.  As the lanes broke down and I needed more length through the front part of the lane, I saw great shape in the midlane and good continuation through the pins.  This Infused is definitely a good 1st and 2nd transtition ball.  I can honestly see myself having two different drilled ones in my bag for medium length oil patterns.  I was pretty impressed with the overall shape of the ball and its continuation despite how smooth the original TNT was for me.

I believe for most styles, this ball would be a good first transtition ball for medium to medium heavy oil.  I think too much oil may give this ball problems as well as the lack of oil as well.  Altering the surface by removing the reacta gloss would certainly help this ball work in other environments.  I do think its continuation will make this ball work for many styles.

What difference do you think a pin up would be?  I have this on order and am debating on pin up  / down?

Mine is pin down.  My buddy has a pin up version.  Take a look at the video for a better comparison.  Pin down will be smoother overall and will need a little more friction then a pin up.

Roto Grip's new HP3 release is called the TNT Infused. The ball features the same Torpex core featured in the original TNT but this time is wrapped in the 2 part pearl 1 part solid E-trax hybrid cover. The pearl additive and polished finish make the motion of this ball a suprising polar opposite of its predecessor.

I tested this ball on our very high ratio house pattern. The longer 12:1 design of our house shot is very cliffed and as a result really locks you into balls which can stand up quickly to avoid the downlane OOB. The TNT infused has been great for this purpose as the fast revving core and quick response cover really get it make a quick change of direction.

This ball is a little condition specific as the quick response can make it lock up and get forward a little too quickly for some. The reaction for me has been great for getting the ball to roll off the spot very violently. On a more blended condition I think the TNT Infused will favor bowlers with more ball speed.

Roto Grip TNT Infused
Cover: eTraxâ„¢ PLUS Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: Torpexâ„¢ Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Glow Orange/Copper/Plum

Review:
This is a great release from Roto Grip. The initial TNT technical data has benchmark ball written all over it, and now you have your benchmark hybrid. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). With the out of box finish this ball took a couple of games to wear the cover down to a point where we felt there was a bit more hold or miss room. It seemed a bit picky the first 2/3 of the lane if you weren’t perfect, and our house shot isn’t too difficult. Although it did burn in a little bit after some cover wear we took a 2k abralon pad and on the fresh saw a much more predictable and consistent reaction that you would except out of box from a benchmark like the OG Hyroad, Xponent, etc. Overall this is a great piece for someone starting out with the first high performance piece or someone adding that benchmark Hybrid to their bag.

Roto Grip TNT Infused
Coverstock: eTrax PLUS Hybrid Reactive
Core: Torpex
Factory Finish: Reacta Gloss
Layout: 4 x 6 x 4

The new Roto Grip HP3 ball is the TNT Infused. The original TNT is the ultimate control ball. The TNT has the solid eTrax coverstock and is designed to provide a benchmark reaction. The Infused is built for length and forgiveness (think shiny benchmark reaction) with the addition of the eTrax PLUS hybrid (2-parts pearl, 1-part solid). The Infused provides a completely different reaction type than my similarly drilled TNT. The Infused is cleaner with a nice arcing motion on the backend. Compared to the another shiny HP3 line ball, the Duo, the Infused is easily 5 more in overall hook and continued more on the backend.

Roto Grip TNT Infused
Coverstock: eTrax Plus Hybrid Reactive
Box Finish: Reacta Gloss
Core: Torpex Core
RG: 2.47, Diff: 0.052 (15 lbs)
VLS Layout: 5 x 4 x 2-1/2
Dual Angle Layout: 60 x 5 x 35
PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up
Rev rate: 400 rpm
Average speed: 16.5 mph
Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie, WI
Pattern: Medium volume THS

The TNT Infused is the newest ball in the Roto Grip HP3 line.  The Infused features the same low RG symmetrical Torpex core as the original TNT, but this time it’s wrapped in the 2-parts pearl and 1-part solid eTrax Plus Hybrid cover.  The solid version of this reactive cover was on the TNT, and the pearl version was on the RST-X2.  All that said, this new TNT Infused is designed to provide a bit more length and backend responsiveness compared to the original TNT.

After just a few shots with the Infused with the out-of-box polished finish, it’s safe to say that it and original TNT are very different balls thanks to the differences in coverstock.  The strong core still helps the Infused get into an earlier midlane roll, but the polished hybrid cover makes it much cleaner in the front part of the lane and helps to create a responsive backend reaction that’s explosive through the pins.  Even though the out-of-box Reacta Gloss finish helps to create length and responsiveness, sometimes I find it also creates over/under reaction.  As I often do with factory-polished balls, I lightly scuffed the surface with an older 2000-grit Abralon pad by hand to knock some of the factory shine off.  Doing this helped on misses in the oil as the ball had a little bit more traction the dig out the 10-pin, and misses that got to the dry too early didn’t jerk as hard off the friction.  By comparison, the original TNT reads the lane much earlier and is significantly smoother downlane, and the DUO is perhaps just a touch stronger than the Infused (due to the really strong MicroTrax pearl cover) but has a smoother motion off the friction.

The TNT Infused is going to be a great ball for most everyone.  It you want the earlier rolling benchmark-type reaction that the original TNT provided, but also want a more responsive downlane reaction, the TNT Infused is a no-doubter.  For tournament players, this will be a great transition ball to go to after the Gem or Magic Gem.  For league bowlers, I think the Infused is versatile ball that can be used all night, especially if you take just a little bit of factory shine off the cover.

Dual Angle Layout: 55 x 4 1/2 x 40

Storm Vector Layout: 4 ½ x 4 ½ x 2 ½

This ball has been something special.  Great length with consistent and controllable back end.  This ball has been great on a fresh house shot, given that I have a good amount of revs, and has been even better as the lanes start to break down.  This ball looks great as well, who doesn’t love a good-looking ball that preforms??

TNT Infused • Roto Grip • HP3 Series

Weight • 15 lbs. RG • 2.57 Differential •.052
Coverstock • eTrax Plus Hybrid • Finish Reacta Gloss
Layout • 4 ¼ x 4 ¾ x 1 ¾

Test Pattern • 42’ THS (Typical House Shot) • Modified, Kegel Stone Street

From my first roll with the TNT Infused, I could see Roto Grip developed a powerful new weapon to add to any bowler’s arsenal. And the longer I rolled this new Roto Grip howitzer and watched its explosive results, the more the TNT Infused left me smiling from ear to ear! The TNT Infused combines the Torpex Symmetric Core and the eTrax Plus Hybrid Reactive Coverstock. And this winning duo of core/cover produced some fantastic results. So, let’s take a closer look at what’s behind the success of the TNT Infused.

The Torpex Core is a well-crafted symmetrical core that produces a smooth and predictable motion any down-and -in player like me can depend on. I liked the vibrant torque that the Torpex Core had off my hand, and even with my low rev rate, the Torpex Core built a strong and continuous momentum as it rolled through the mid-lane. Unlike other symmetrical cores that roll out or lose their gusto as they hit the pocket, the Torpex Core turns that stored energy into a powerful pin-crushing machine. I found the TNT Infused has a relentless continuation and takes no prisoners as it plows its way through the pin deck. So, if you’re a straighter low-rev player like me, the Torpex Core will deliver results you can count on and a motion you can trust.

Now, what elevates the TNT Infused above the competition is the eTrax plus Hybrid Coverstock! This two-part pearl and one-part solid mixture is “money” for any straighter player like me. And suppose you’re a league player who bowls in different conditions. In that case, you can count on the eTrax Plus Hybrid Coverstock to deliver consistency and an almost benchmark motion in nearly any type of THS condition.

Whether on fresh or worn conditions, the eTrax Plus Hybrid easily clears the front part of the lane and has a predictable, smooth traction in the mid-lane. Further, as the TNT Infused makes its turn off the pattern, the eTrax Plus Hybrid has a crisp, responsive motion without being overly aggressive. So, if you miss right, the eTrax Plus Hybrid brings you back without being erratic. If you pull it left into the oil, the eTrax Plus Hybrid holds the line and has a smooth roll to the pocket as it finds friction. So, this type of blending and consistency makes the TNT Infused an excellent choice for nearly any THS shot condition you may encounter during competition.

In conclusion, the TNT Infused by Roto Grip is a fantastic new release! The TNT Infused will have a place in nearly any league bowler’s arsenal. And if you are a straighter, low-rev player like me, you can count on the TNT Infused to keep your game in play all night long with scoring results that will keep you smiling until next week! So, stop into your local Storm VIP Pro Shop today and have your TNT Infused ready to blast the competition! The TNT Infused is well worth it!

Roto Grip TNT Infused
LAYOUT: 45 x 5 x 40
COLOR: Glow Orange / Copper / Plum
CORE: TorpexTM Core
COVER: eTraxTM PLUS Hybrid Reactive
BOX FINISH: Reacta GlossTM
BUILT FOR: Medium Oil
FLARE POTENTIAL: High

Consider yourself WARNED!
Being a HUGE fan of Roto Grip hybrids: like my current main go to ball, Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid, I was stoked when I saw the TNT line was adding a hybrid to the line up first, before a pearl version was released. Being two parts pearl and one part solid, made me even more excited. The TNT Infused has the look of a past Roto Grip ball, the DareDevil Danger, which is still one of my all-time favorite ball lines, the TNT Infused rolls and reacts a little earlier and hits harder than my Hyped Hybrid. The multi-density Torpex core is responsive and when the Infused hits the pins, it is very explosive. Comparing to the Hyped Hybrid, on Pro-Lane and SPL, the Infused does change motions early and stronger than the Hyped, where sometimes the Hyped takes longer to respond, and I can move my feet deeper into the center of the lane and not have to play so straight on those 2 types of lane surfaces, don't get me wrong, I love playing straighter when I can, but when the Hyped does not quite "get there" a nice stronger step up is the Infused. It is now my benchmark ball on Thursday nights at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg. So, now my league bags have the Magic Gem, TNT Infused, Tour Dynam-X, Virtual Energy Blackout and Hustle RIP. I would say that would be a well rounded arsenal. ( Saving the one spot for the IQ Tour U/78.
I hope this provides you some good insight and information on how the Roto Grip TNT Infused works for me.
