What to Get
« on: February 22, 2007, 02:44:05 AM »
Took about 4years off from bowling, just starting to get serious again. I went out and bought the 44 Mag from Dynothane, lookig for something that is enough extra aggression on the lanes compared to the 44 to warrant a purchase.(From roto grip of course). Can't quite find anything to fit that from Dynothane's lineup. Ive come here because i have seen the epic battle first hand. That ball HITS. Hoping something with that core will compliment my 44 or vice versa.

The obvious choice would be the Epic Battle.  The Saga would probably fit just under the 44 and the Odyssey would be just above.  If you're only going to have two or three balls, I don't think there's enough difference to warrant either of those if you've already got the 44.  The Battle will be quite a ways above the 44 as it's a dull solid particle.

Epic Saga is actually probably right around the 44 in terms of strength.  Odyssey will be above -- and not just "by a bit."  The move it makes on the back is strong, to say the least.  The Battle handles heavy, heavy oil better, but for most house shots, where the patterns is NOT flat, the Odyssey should cover more boards overall.  Another ball you might consider is the SD-73 Classic.  Large amount of flare, with a proven cover = gold.

In any case, consider building a simple three ball arsenal.  Roto also has some fantastic entry level priced performance pieces that should fit below your 44.

Something like...

Heavier Oil -- Battle, Odyssey, or SD-73
Medium Oil -- 44 Magnum
Lighter Oil -- Venus
Spare Ball

...would be a great, simple arsenal that should cover most conditions.

Hope this helps!
