Wrecker is strong!
« on: October 05, 2013, 11:16:39 AM »
in oob condition the Wrecker is still strong for a med  / light house shot. This is my first roto grip and 1st hybrid ball. Have any of you changed the surface on the Wrecker? I know its 1500 with polish....if you changed the surface what did you change it to and how did it work?

I have not changed mine, can't improve upon perfection!  8)

Im sure you know this but 1500 with polish from storm is actually 4000 grit abralon with polish.

Maybe try an extender polish?

Storm's "1500 + polish" means the ball is at P1500 grit when a highly abrasive polish is applied, firmly. The result (according to the surface scanner used by Joey Cerrar, doing BJI ball reviews, is in the 5300 - 5500 grit range.

Remember the final grit (NOT the starting grit ) level is what's important. Storm and other manufacturers should NOT be saying it's1500 grit + polish. They should tell you what the final grit is, the one you're actually using on the lanes!!!

P is a way of labeling an abrasive as a FEPA graded abrasive versus the CAMI graded abrasive.  FEPA is an international specification for abrasives and the grit size is more uniform across the surface of the sandpaper.  Finishes with FEPA graded abrasives are more uniform.

With CAMI, denoted at times with an A, the grit size varies quite a bit more and the grit number is more of an average size of the grit.  Finishes with CAMI graded abrasives will sometimes have deep scratches while the rest is more uniform.

So, If I wanted to sand the ball up with a 4000 abralon pad, I would be sanding it down. They never should have said 1500 with polish....That would have screwed me up.

4000 would be down regardless since the ball originally had polish anyway...

To be honest I personally can never, ever replicate storm oob.  When I cant handle a ball oob (anarchy, critical) I first put ample amounts of games on it, like develop a track.  Then I simply have the proshop clean on the ball on the spinner, then I have them apply step 2 polish.

Now like I said this works FOR ME, but whatever they do gives me oob length, but no where near the backend.  The ball then becomes very usuable.   Now I did not have this problem with a low end rock, just the monsters lol.
