Blackout cover feel?
« on: January 06, 2012, 05:00:23 PM »
Today I recieved my Blackout, I have not drilled it yet but when I feel the surface, the Gold Flakes seem to have a sharpness to them, kind of like a particle portruding out, so is the Gold Flake material a form of Particle?

Do you mean in the lettering?  That is just glitter.. if there is any on the ball surface you will be able to wipe it off : )

hope this helps!

Nope, the Gold Glitter is not only in the Lettering but all over the ball and is sticking out of the balls surface, I may have to place it on a resurfacing machine with Diamond cutting pads too smooth it out. I purchased it from Bowlersdream.com, maybe you could ask them about what they sent me.

it is what Ryan said, it is engraving glitter, I have had several balls arrive with glitter on various areas of a ball. They will come off, by scratching them with your finger nail or using a cleaner and a ball spinner. There is no particle load in a Blackout !!!!

Have to agree I'd quite like that myself!

Schwanstuker - if you are able to take a high res photo of the ball, email it to me at ryan@seismicbowling.com.

Sometimes with the glittery logo paint it can get loose and get smudged around the ball while in the bag, but it will come off easily with a bit of a clean.

I wish the particle Power Grooves were still around. So great control balls... The Blackout comes close, though, I'd hardly see a need for a particle version? Scuff the OOB ball to 4.000 grit, that's as smooth as it can get.

I'm going to try 1000 grit paper plus light polish first.  I've been getting an over/under reaction with the ball at OOB and want to see if that little bit of extra surface helps.

That statment kinda depends on layout doesn't it?? Lay it out smooth and it will be smooth far smoother than laying it out to be angular and then trying to smooth it out via surface alterations.

Would like a stronger Particle Blackout using the same core that would be cool.

I'm not going to try to get a replacement ball, I'm just going to play nice and place my ball on a resurfacing machine, Maybe the Gold Flakes got trapped under the Polish, they are apart of the surface, I hope they ground down so I'll have a ferfectly round ball.

I never got around to resurfacing the ball, after drilling, I tried in league, the Blackout weighed 14.3, so I had it drilled Pin 5 1/4 from PAP, grip line through the Cg for a little Mb about 2 inches right of my Thumb, it's first few tosses were not impressive but it did not hit me until later that I drilled this ball for Shorter, Lighter oil, I played with it and another ball for a 176 & 179, I moved to about 17 board on the approach, aimed at 8 at the arrows and it was locked in, a couple of spares and lots of 10 in the pit strikes for a 270. I was so impressed that I decided to order another Blackout, bowlersdream.com did not have a 2-3 Pin in 14.4 but they did have a 4+ pin, it's on the way and I'm going to drill it with nearly the same drilling I had with the Solaris Pearl, Pin above the Ring finger and swing the Cg 35 degrees, weight hole back to zero, so now I might have a great 1-2 punch, if one don't work, the other will!

That's true. Nothing beats a ball with an axis layout concerning smoothness and arc - that's something you can hardly achieve through surface tricks (esp. without trading in other flaws, like an early read in the heads). Anyway, I'd like the particle PGs around a as a very good basis for a lot of things.
