My wife and I are moving from Atlanta to Charlotte in the next couple of months and I was wondering where the best places for good scratch leagues are in the area. Anyone who can give some insight to the league / tournament action in the Charlotte area is much appreciated.

Depending on what part of Charlotte you are moving to, here are some ideas. There are really no pure scratch leagues. The Vortex league at Park Lanes is a 3 on league, with I believe a 585 cap. Northcross Lanes in Huntersville, about 20 miles north, has a 5-man handicap league on Tuesdays with an 1100 cap that changes the lane pattern each trimester. It is a big money league.They currently have 36 teams. Park Lanes usually has a PBA experience league in the summer. Other than those, other leagues are your basic handicap leagues. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. We are looking to live in South Charlotte - in the Pineville area. Which of the centers down in that area have the best leagues (hdcp or scratch). Thanks for the insights. Much appreciated.

I'll be running a scratch singles league in the fall in Rock Hill, SC (about 10-15mins south of Pineville) We ran a rest one that ends tomorrow that was 16 weeks. Was $20 a week and first is getting around $1000. Not bad for a $320 investment. The one in the fall will probably be around 32 weeks, and will be on Tuesday nights around 9pm. If you are in Pineville your best bet is Park Lanes. Go there and they'll take great care of you.

If you are looking to bowl this summer, the Park 10 Point Classic starts next Tuesday. It is a 4 on, any combination, handicap league. The first game you compete as a team, the second game is doubles, and the third game is singles. It has been going on now for about 10 years and normally has 16 to 20 teams. Mike LeViner does good job down at Park Lanes, definitely worth the drive down there

I would recommend Darrell Ratliff right there at AMF Carolina. Also, Hal Beck, retired pro shop owner, works there for Darrell on Saturdays.

Yeah, you can't beat Mike, he's a student of the game and a great guy to boot. I would stay away from anything in or associated with AMF.
