US Open Qualifier - EA Dublin Results
« on: November 14, 2005, 12:46:48 AM »
The two people that qualified for the US Open in the Earl Anthony's Dublin Bowl last weekend were Ken Daly and Gary Ekman.  High qualifier was Gary Ekman.  He finished second after a step ladder lost to the second high qualifier Ken Daly.

It looked like 40 feet of oil.  Lane stripped and oil before the squad. Initially (during practice) it came back from the outside.  People ended up playing in between the 2nd and 3rd arrow.  Volume of oil pretty heavy and fairly flat.  People with hand were playing 3rd arrow.  Near the end of the tournament, the hands people were in between the 3rd and 4th arrow.

Ekman is a fairly straight shooter.  He was around 12 most of the day.  Daly was a lefty he was in between the 1st and 2nd arrows. His shot opened up near the end.  At the end, he was playing 8,9 at the arrows.

Gary Ekman is local;  he bowls out of Cloverleaf in Fremont.

He's also leading Scratch All-Events at the National Mixed in Reno, BTW.

In past years, Dublin has put out a variant of the house shot for the Open qualifiers, with more volume in front.  They usually balk at putting out Sport or PBA patterns for fear of scaring people away.

Did not know a lot of the people there.  A couple were Curtis Woods and Greg Mcfadden.

Curtis was swinging around 17 without alot of hand.  He wasn't doing too well.
