Storm’s new DNA Coil is a Pearl Asymmetric Piece.  This piece is good for Medium-Heavy Volume Patterns.  PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400.  Speed: 16.5.  Drilled this piece with the Pin Up between the Fingers, CG kicked out 1.5” from the palm, 1/2” right of the Thumb.  EXO Pearl provides length with a few boards of area check because it reads the midlane better than most other pearl pieces.  Burned up 43’ house pattern, Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts, started in the mids with a strong backend reaction.  I compared this piece Virtual Energy Blackout (1-1 Right) and Summit Peak (2-2 Right).  This Versatile piece fits all styles of bowlers.

Wow this ball is awesome, super clean through the front part of the lane and boy does it pack a punch on the backend.  This ball reminds me a lot of the Exotic Gem.  If you’re looking for a long and strong Assym this is the ball for you, oh and it smells amazing as well.

Dislikes: I'm oddly not a fan of the scent

I have seen other people’s reviews on this ball and their pin up layouts creates a rather unusual early but angular motion with plenty of continuation. I drilled mine pin down to hopefully get away from that angular motion.  What I got was a ball that I have to stay closer to the friction with and it never reads it too hard, it just seems to absorb the friction and come off of it with a very smooth and continuous roll.  This motion seems to really blend the wet/dry even with the factory shine on it!  I am not sure that I want to change surface on it, to be honest.  The point of all of these balls is to have different motions and this one is definitely a different motion!

Key words for me are Smooth and Control!

Sam Cooper Roto Grip Amateur Staff. The DNA Coil features the EXO pearl coverstock along with the Supercoil Core. Layout is 45x5 1/4”x75(pin down). I prefer to have a pin down pearl in the bag for the surfaces around Pittsburgh. After the first DNA rolled so well for me I went with a similar layout just a weaker pin. With the coil you see similar tendencies of the OG with just a cleaner and quicker response to the friction. This ball is great for when the fronts are burnt up a bit but need control on the back end. The Supercoil core has enough strength and the EXO pearl cover has enough traction to hook in oil.

Where I have used the DNA Coil is after the Optimum Idol when that tends to be too early or when it won’t go through the pins correctly. I bowl in a house shot burn league on a high friction surface. The Coil has no trouble getting through the body of the house shot and giving me controllable pop on the back end. Then when the Coil is too smooth(think this is due to the layout) I can go to the Attention Star or VEBO to get more on the back end and better pin carry. The Coil will be a good option in the bag for anyone that wants a strong pearl or the environment you in has friction in the fronts. Don’t sleep on the Coil if striking is in your DNA!

This has become a favorite of mine during leagues in centers where they tend to hook early. I have been using this on the fresh on those earlier hooking surfaces and the ball has been phenomenal. We see cleanliness yet tons of mid lane read and continuation. For comparison purposes, I see this as a cleaner option versus an Exotic Gem and a great step down off the stronger asymmetrical and or symmetrical solids. This ball is designed for medium to heavier oil conditions and can be used either directly on the fresh and/or early lane transition

Storm has brought a welcomed new dynamic to the DNA line with their release of the DNA Coil. With the addition of the EXO Pearl Reactive coverstock combined with the fast-spinning Supercoil Core, the DNA Coil is an outstanding success in the Storm line! So, let’s take a closer look at Storm’s new masterpiece – the DNA Coil!

From my first roll with the DNA Coil, I enjoyed how the Supercoil Core transfers energy throughout the lane. For a big asymmetric core, the Supercoil Core has a fast-revving motion in the mid-lane like a symmetric core, but rather than burn up its energy at the back end, which is what straighter players like me tend to see. The Supercoil Core builds momentum as it makes its path through the midline. And it retains a significant amount of inertia that explodes when it finds the roll phase. And when the DNA Coil starts rolling, get out of its way! The Supercoil Core rolls with a robust amount of energy that destroys the pin deck! And with its strong asymmetric design, the Supercoil Core has a steam-rolling continuation that destroys anything in its path! So, straighter and low–rev players like me will love the motion the Supercoil Core brings.

What makes the DNA Coil come alive is the EXO Pearl Reactive coverstock. I found the EXO Pearl to be crisp, clean, and smooth throughout the night with the Reacta Gloss finish. However, when I sanded my DNA Coil with 2000-grit Abralon and followed it with Storm’s Rough Edge polish, there was no turning back! I loved how the EXO Pearl glides through the front part of the lane but griped smoothly in the mid-lane, creating a crisp and distinct turn-off the pattern you could trust! And whether it was early on a fresh THS or later on broken down, spotty conditions, I could count on the EXO Pearl coverstock to keep my DNA Coil rolling smoothly on the shim line without being jumpy or snapping off the back end. So, if you are a straighter player like me, the EXO Pearl reactive coverstock will fit nicely into your game!

In conclusion, the Storm DNA Coil brings a new dynamic look to Storm’s Premier line. I found the Supercoil Core and the EXO Pearl Reactive coverstock a winning combination that makes the DNA Coil an excellent ball choice for any straighter, high-speed, low-rev player like me. The DNA Coil rolls hard, cuts decisively, and destroys the pins.
