2nd Dimension vs Hyroad
« on: February 14, 2009, 02:06:35 AM »
Anyone thrown both with a similar layout that can compare the reaction between the two? Would it be worth having both?
Thanks

Well, let me first say that i am REALLY considering drilling my 2nd dimension the same as my hyroad.

From the information that i have recieved from my pro-shop, Britton, & a guy at storm, these 2 balls are somewhat close to eachother.  sometimes they will actually swap places, meaning that depending on the condition, the hyroad might be stronger than the 2nd, & vice-versa.

Thsi is apparently due to the fact that the 2nd actually rolls a bit earlier than the hy-road does, the downfall to this is that the 2nd is a pearl.  What im saying is that depending on the level of oil in the midlane, the 2nd may actually go longer than the hyroad does.

After learning all of this about the 2nd, i may actually drill it a little stronger than my hy-road, as im getting the 2D to allow me to open up the lanes just a bit more than my hy-road will allow.

I will be drilling my 2D tomorrow, but i wont actually hit fresh oil to see what it really does until at least sunday, possibly saturday afternoon.

I have both of these at 4.5 x 4.  If I left them at box the 2nd would be just a touch stronger.  I have my 2nd at 2000 and the HY-Road at 4000 and they give me a similar roll shape for different volumes / length of oil (2nd medium-heavy to medium and HY-Road medium to medium-light).  The HY-Road is a bit touchier with carrydown compared to the 2nd.  The 2nd is probably the best pearl reactive I've ever thrown in carrydown conditions.

In answer to your 'worth having both' question my answer is depends.  If you bowl primarily in 1 house and you are looking for different roll shape and ability to handle oil volume changes then I'd say no.  If you bowl several tournaments a year I'd argue they complement each other to the point that if one wouldn't carry for you on a broken down shot the other will.
