Advice?
« on: August 16, 2014, 09:50:43 AM »
As usual, whenever I post a question, I usually have a pretty good idea what I want to do or what I'm going to do, but I'm kinda stumped on this one.  I want an Optimus.  What I've got in my bag right now is a Covert Revolt, a Tribal, and an Uproar.  The Revolt doesn't see much action just because I rarely need the hook, so the Optimus would replace it in the bag.  However, that ends me up with 3 pearls, and I see a ton of overlap.  Even though the pieces don't technically overlap, I bowl on medium conditions, I can hook the lane or play straighter with my Tribal.  My Uproar gets down the lane further, but still hooks about the same amount as the Tribal, maybe a little less.  I just don't see room for the Optimus here.  But being in the shop, I want to be throwing new stuff . . but the Tribal and the Uproar are both so good that I don't want to replace either of them.  It was painful enough retiring my Sigma Tour.

Between the Revolt and Optimus, I see more need for the Revolt just because it's a different look.  But looking at other new balls, I see absolutely no need for anything but my Uproar and Tribal on the conditions I'm bowling on.  The Optimus may be a great option for tournaments where I may need a bigger hooking pearl though.  The Tribal and Uproar both need a bit of friction to get moving, but from what I've seen of the Optimus, it needs the same thing.  I want the Optimus, but I don't see any reason to spend more money on a reaction I already have . . help?

I've never needed a reason other than "I want one of those" to buy a new ball. ;D

Why would you BUY a ball to bowl league that you have already talked yourself out of being better than what you currently have?

You are in a totally different category than me, and I understand your predicament. You are almost expected to use the newest pieces to help boost sales.

If I was you, I would go for it. Even if it just use for tourneys, you will give some exposure for that piece.

Alrighty.  I just don't get BUYING a ball to promote it for somebody else.  But then again it's been long time since I've had to buy a bowling ball.

Yeah that's basically it . . we aren't required to drill stuff every so often or anything, but when we do drill new stuff, we're encouraged to show the new stuff off that we stock.  I keep watching video on this one though and it worries me.  It looks like the core is too strong for the cover, looks it has over/under issues.

Lol that must be nice . .  I'm not getting asked to buy one or anything, and I'm not specifically buying it just to promote it, but I like drilling stuff and showing off new good stuff to the community.  Been throwing a lot of Motiv recently because I like what they're doing and I've been getting people here into them.  Gotten a lot of traction there so I wanted to check some other stuff out.  I tend to go overboard with a lot of things and put more effort or attention into things than they really need, but that's something that the community here likes about me, I'm not just the guy behind the register taking their money, lol I get more excited about them getting a ball than they do.

Seems to me that you've already convinced yourself that you are going to drill the ball up and use it for play, exposure or whatever. So just drill it up, throw it and enjoy. If you don't like it you can always bring one of your older balls out of retirement or just drill up something new again when the new balls get released this fall.
