Ball Reaction Video (Layouts pt 2)
« on: December 09, 2014, 10:05:35 AM »
Got some video last night.  I haven't bowled on a fresh shot at this house for month and was fairly surprised, my ball reaction isn't nearly as bad as I thought it was.  Still not great, still not ideal, but something I can work with.  Now I'm pretty sure my biggest problem is just inconsistency from being out of practice and tired most of the time.  If I get more than 6 hours of sleep at night, I'm ecstatic, and I have zero time to practice.  I turned the camera on and just threw shots, and when I cut the video, I used half the shots I threw.

The first 3 shots I realized I was playing too much area, so I moved the camera and pulled my breakpoint in.  The shot is fresh, and I realize I'm already pretty far left, but if you notice how hard some of the shots check downlane, playing any further right results in really early reaction.  This pattern has next to nothing on the lane from 1-8, then the full volume and flat from 9-9.  I'm alternating between the Hyroad Solid and Covert Revolt, the Revolt has the white slug in it.  This is really close to how I prefer to throw it, but still a bit slower than normal to get the ball to finish well.

I took some video of my form and was going to upload that, but when I got done cutting the ball reaction, I wondered why I'd want to mess with anything and tinker if I'm getting roll and reaction like that.  It definitely needs cleaned up to increase consistency, but I'm not drastically changing anything.  I really do honestly like my ball roll and after the fiasco I created for myself coming out of youth 11 or 12 years ago, I'm not about to mess anything up now.  I didn't think it was good enough to just throw the ball good, I thought I had to look pretty too.  In doing so I completely screwed myself up for YEARS.

This is best watched in 1080p.  Might bump the quality on my camera too, it does 60 fps.  Takes a while to upload and then render, but on a side note, can anybody recommend a tripod or something that might combat some of that vibration?  I can't put my camera on the approach without every little thing jarring it, just the ball coming back on the return makes it shake.

What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?
