Crux vs Lock

With both balls at box surface, the Crux is noticibly earlier.  Why?

I would guess cover mostly. Cover really determines where and when the ball reads. Core determines how strong of a move it makes. That's my opinion.

Around me the Lock is earlier for everyone that also has a Crux

I've read the crux is more mid and earlier and the lock is later and more backend. But I've read that, I haven't seen both.
