Difference in pictures of cores?
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:09:44 PM »
In the recent issue of Bowlers Journal, it states they made an error in the picture of the Gravity Shift core, and the complaints Storm, I'm assuming made about the incorrect picture.  They show the incorrect picture, and the correct picture.......but I don't see any noticeable difference.  Is Storm just being real nitpicky about certain parts of the core, or did BJ drop the ball again, and put the same core on both pictures?  Just wondering if anyone else noticed.

Look at the top and the bottom parts, where the coverstock meets the rest. One picture shows a wider top, the other shows a wider bottom.

Could you elaborate on BJI dropping the ball? Where has it dropped the ball in the past? Do you have anything besides the ball artwork not always matching up (an often reported thing, BTW)?

I'd love to elaborate on BJ dropping the ball again.  Them admitting they put the wrong picture in last month's issue, thought that was explained in my original post.  Using the word again in my question to ask if this happened in back to back months.

I don't know about BJ, but the ball guide in last year's USBC rag has a few mistakes in it.  The most noticeable to me is that they put the NE10 core/cover picture for two balls, though I can't recall what the other ball was.

NVM, I was thinking you meant "again" as referring to more months than just the past one.

Shelley: the errors in ball pictures are largely a production based error. When the ball guide is put together, many people - who are not necessarily bowlers, by any means - look over the material. This often results in problems such as the one you mentioned. BJI is aware of this and is making efforts to attempt correcting it in the future.

I looked at it a couple of times before I noticed the difference.  I'm not sure if I was Storm I would have asked for the correction but I get it.  Storm and the other manufacturers participate in these ball reviews (providing the balls, marketing input, etc.) in order to get some level of promotion.  If they felt that the error somehow positioned the Gravity in a negative light then it makes sense to request the correction.

I didn't notice the error, but I appreciate BJI and Storm, publishing the correction, to avoid misleading their readers/consumers.
