Do I have room for a Paradigm Passion
« on: May 06, 2007, 05:27:36 PM »
I currently have a Double Agent with a 5" pin under with a 30 degree mass bias, 1000 abralon and a Special Agent with a 4 1/2 pin under with a 60 degree mass bias, 2000 abralon.  Does anyone see a need for a Passion.  If so, for what type of shot/layout that these two wont cover.  I am strickly speaking med/heavy to heavy or long patterns.  I have a Shift, T-road pearl, and picking up a couple others for med, med/light, and light shots.

Thanks

dlenart is a little off here the Special is in nooo way more aggresive then the double the double is extremely aggresive on heavey oil and the passion is much more aggresive then double I don't know your bowling stye if so i would say you would only need the passion for extreme oil I use my double on the PBA shark and It has no problem hooking so I hope you can base your next purchase off of this or at least it helps

I don't know where dlenart said that the SA is more aggressive than the DA.  Nonetheless, I agree with dlenart, the SA should be plenty for most oil (including med/heavy to heavy).

I wouldn't see any reason why not. If so, keep the pin above the fingers about 4 7/8 away so you can get the ball to flare more.

There is a little confusion here on this post. When always comparing balls with the same weight block but different covers', they must be drilled the exact same way. The Double Agent does hook a little more than the Special Agent. The problem that the average bowler fails to identify is total hook, rather than BACKEND reaction. The DA's cover allows the ball to roll/hook more in the front and continuos on the back while the SA's cover will allow a smoother, much more predictable, roll in the mid-lane because the ball isn't burning up that much in the front. PM me if you guys have any more questions or ask your local pro.

I have all 3 in my arsenal, and it can be easily done, especially if you're going to use different layouts and surfaces.  I have the Passion, mainly for tournaments, dulled and drilled aggressive, the Special Agent lightly dulled, for most medium heavies I see, and the Double is polished, for light mediums, I did this because the Double didn't make a hard enough move at the breakpoint, and I couldn't get it to grab in oil, now it works great in the spot it's in.  The other main difference is core.  Me personally, I have never, had a ball with a symmetric core that I could really use on heavy oil....only possible exception may have been the Swamp Monster, and that had snow chains for a cover.  The strong mass bias balls give me the harder breakpoint I need when I see more oil, so I have to have the Passion up there at the top.  You have to go with what works for your game, so if you can make room for it, and adjust it so there is a difference between that and the others, go for it, the Passion is a great ball.

Even if you don't like the Passion for the swamps it's made for, you could abralon it up to 1000 or throw some polish on it to use it for mediums/medium-heavys. One time I threw some polish on it and it worked really well for a less thick THS. Granted I changed it back ASAP, it did the job well.
