Fired Up vs Thunderstruck Pearl
« on: September 24, 2007, 03:13:19 PM »
How different are the reactions of these two balls when drilled the same
only difference is the core shape and Rg numbers are very similar:
F-U @ 16
Rg. 2.54
diff 0.49
Thunderstruck @ 16
Rg. 2.54
diff 0.54

Fired Up makes a sharper move at the breakpoint is the main difference.

I would say for the price difference get the thunderstruck. I don't see how they would be much different with the same exact drilling and surface.

That differential makes a difference - Fired Up definitely is noticeably stronger at breakpoint.

0.05 diffential isnt going to make a difference especially when you consider the maximum track flare effect is 3/8". The difference in these two balls is only going to come out after drilling because you will be removing mass from the core in slightly different areas.

what riggs said is correct because i have both balls in my arsenal. when the fired up is bouncing too hard i go to the thunderstruck pearl because the ball does not bounce hard. Look at the block differences in the ball...big difference.

Inferno you can say what you want but I know what I experience when I throw a bowling ball and these two are markedly different at the breakpoint.

Are they drilled the exact same way with the exact surface?

Also, this man is comparing 16lb equipment, not 15.

Looking at 15#, thunderstruck :2.57 and .047 and fired up is 2.57 and .05.

Now, I'm not saying that one is stronger than the other. Even though storm says the thunderstruck pearl is reactor pearl, it might be a weaker version, who knows.

I'm surprised also at the numbers.

When looking at the cores and watching rolls I have always thought that the great fired up was a bigger core harder revvin earlier ball and the Thunderstruck pearl was a great rev a little later and push down the lane more type of ball.

Both great just slightly different purposes I thought!

My fired up is anything but early. Goes 45 feet and then starts moving. The spitfire from what I can tell is earlier rolling. I have seen the thunderstruck pearl and the fired up used by the same person with a similar drill. You really can't tell that much difference.

so then the thunderstruck is a little smoother at the breakpoint than the fired up but overall both balls hook the same amount.

I would say that is about right. Fired Up has a little more total hook, IMHO, but that may be mostly due to its move at the breakpoint.
