Gave up on the Invasion layout recommended
« on: March 02, 2010, 11:59:41 PM »
Bowled along side a guy last night who is a Storm rep and has his own pro shop.  He said the drilling of my Invasion was not a good one.  So I said, take the ball plug and re-drill and I''ll try it again.  So I tried different surfaces and now I''ll try a different drilling.  Hope plugging the first drilling doesn''t negatively effect the next drilling.

I've never had a problem with a plug and re-drilled ball, and with so few games on it you should be fine. I just wish if it was the same shop that didn't give you what you wanted the first time they would do it at a discount.

So this weekend while bowling during our city tournament, a guy on our lanes whom also had a Invasion asked me how I liked the ball polished up, and asked if I lost any reaction...

I told him I love it polished up and actually gained reaction.

I have my Invasion drilled Pin up, with the CG @ about 45*  and the ball gets down the lane very nice and makes a nice strong turn on the backend.

I tried the ball @ 2k and just didnt like the reaction it was too over-under.

Did he explain why?

Either way, I have a power machine on it's 4th drill-no issues.

I thought I wrote how it was drilled. But in case I didn't, the pin was drilled out in my ring finger and the MB was about 2 inches right of thumb.  I don't know the dual angle layout, but it was 4 1/2 X 4 balance hole on the VAL about 2 inches below my pap.  It was a small hole about 2 1/2 inches deep.

I tried the ball on different conditions and different bowling centers as well as surface changes with very little luck.  So when the rep said the ball was not drilled well, I just handed him the ball.  I didn't like the reaction I was getting, he seen me throw it and he and I have been bowling same league and teammates at the Military Bowling Championships, so I figured let him plug and re-drill the ball and I'll see what happens.  I'll work with the 3.5 and the Mission in the meantime.

What kind of reaction were you getting (if any)?  I would've thought that drilling would be a beast on the right conditions...

I honestly thought the ball would be a monster.  I could use the ball to make my 10 pins.  Its drilled just a touch different then my VG and the VG was making a very solid move off the break point and my VG is at least a year old.  I'm sure the Invasion has potential, so I figured to let a Storm rep who knows my game have a shot at it.

I've read that this ball needs a few games on it to break it in.  How many did you put on yours?

I only had about 12 games on the ball.  I thought that if I can get this ball over to the 10 pin that easy, I'm doing something wrong.

Nicanor.. when will he be done redrilling and you be able to throw it. I commend you for staying with it though and having it redrilled.. im sure it is just a layout issue and you will be happy with it once you get it corrected. For the record I can pick the 10 with any ball in my arsenal and they are monsters. Now if you are throwing with the same revs at your ten that you do on your strike ball and pick the ten.. then theres some issues.. haha.

Hmm..Lets see what I have in bag#1..The Corner of a Jigsaw,a Nasty Spider, a Motiv Qz1 Fire ball, and a green Avalanche..And in bag#2.. A bright red Mission, an Invasion, a Motiv Qz1 Fire ball, and a green Avalanche.. how can I lose?

Did you check the finger, top, bottom and side weights?

You know 345378/94823321 of an ounce could make a huge difference in hook??

i will be honest, at first i was a bit "leary" about my Invasion expecially after seeing a teammate of mine buy one and his wasnt hooking alot... But I do know the Invasion needs Axis tilt..

When i first had mine drilled up, i polished it and then hit it with 4k, so it would have a fresh 4k surface..  now on the 2nd shift pattern that i bowl on, the ball didnt really hook untill it had a dry spot to hook off of..  So I tried 2k, during part of our city tournament and the ball hooked even less lol.. come to find out the GM changed up the fresh shot.. not that it matters since I hadnt bowled on a fresh shot at said house...   But he said it was to create a hook spot farther down the lanes.

In which i said I honestly didnt find a hook spot till the second game lol with the Invasion..  So after said squad, I had it polished back up to 4k.

Anyways after that the ball came alive..  I mean now the ball is awesome on a fresh shot.  Very very predictable.

In the previous post, the guy who also had an Invasion, had his probably at Box condition, and just rev'd the crap outa it..  And for him it was a monster hooking ball.

I can say on a fresh shot I have not had any problem making this thing move.. not at all. Is it the hookingest thing I have in my bag, no.. my mission moves more but also has pin under drilling and its at 2000 grit surface. But it will carry for deeper inside then the mission. So they compliment each other well in that light! I just want to see how it acts with 50+ games on it, see if it begins to lay off like my other storm/roto balls did!
