Good ball down from my IQ Tour
« on: May 17, 2016, 02:51:52 PM »
Hello,

Recently bough a Hyroad and was surprised how much it hooked. I have been looking for a Storm/Roto ball in between my IQ Tour and Ride. I thought it would be the Hyroad but it actually hooks more then my IQ Tour. Tried the Fight but just didn't match up with it. I feel the gap between the IQ Tour and the Ride is too big.  Has to be a ball in between those 2. Maybe Hyroad pearl 0r IQ 30 would fit the bill. Also the Match or Match pearl could work.  I am fine going up, with my IQ Nano and seldom used  Lock. I just run in trouble when balling down from my IQ Tour. Wish I still had my tropical heat hybrid. I think that would have been perfect. Not sure what I will do with Hyroad. I guess I could sell Lock and go Tour Nano, Hyroad, IQ Tour, ??? and Ride. I always appreciate everybody's opinions.  Thanks.

The Match makes most logical sense.  When the IQ is too early and the Ride is too weak on the backend; the Match will fit that void perfectly.

Why not try adjusting the surface of the hyroad before spending more money on another ball? The hyroad has been the most versatile ball on the market for 8 years for a reason and it's the most logical choice both in core numbers and cover type to slot between a tour and a ride. If you say the hyroad hooks more it's because it's retaining more energy for the backend, so adding some surface should smooth it out.

I love that idea. I will try bringing surface down to 3000 with the abralon pads I use. Heading out to Reno soon and I have heard surface is a must. Really don't see a need for a shiny Hyroad.

Theoretically, the Match Solid fits in between the IQ Tour and Ride

Adding surface to the HR will make it hook earlier and more than if it were polished. That is not the solution.

The Match Pearl is definitely more ball than the Ride and less than the IQ Tour.

I like the idea of the match. but Charles if the hyroad is retaining energy and the cause of more hook is that its backending and continuing more than the the iq solid, wouldn't more surface make it earlier but also be flatter on the backend causing less overall hook left to right?

Of course. I didn't meant more backend; I meant more overall hook. Then you have to be careful how deep you move because duller balls don't often retain enough energy as you move deeper. PLUS duller balls require more overall oil and especially more head oil (or more bowler ball speed). It depends on the actual oil situation and the bowler's release, but I'd suggest that dulling the Hy-Road may not be the correct move, if he's looking for a ball to fit underneath the IQT.
