Hook Potential of Sanded Reign vs. Sanded Second Dimension
« on: February 17, 2011, 11:16:31 PM »
I'm just curious if I sanded a Reign to 2000 abralon compared to a Second Dimension sanded to 2000 abralon which ball do you think would have greater hook and stronger backend?

The Second Dimension will hook a lot and hook early, while the Reign will (depending on the lane condition) hook a little less, but will hook more in the backend. I've tried my Second Dimension at 2000, and it was just too strong from front to back for anything other than a super duper flood. I had trouble getting it to the breakpoint because it was so early. The "enhanced traction mica" in the cover (which is basically just a fancy way of saying it's a particle pearl) really accentuates this.

The Sanded Second Dimension is my first ball out of my bag and then I  move to a Hyroad then Furious.  I have a Reign and a Fast.  I don't use  the Reign or the Fast much and I didn't use the Second Dimension until I  sanded it.  If I sanded the Reign to 1000 abralon would it pretty much  work like a Reign of Fire and also does the Reign of Fire hook more than  the Dimension (Sanded Second Dimension)?

The Reign will not be exactly the same as a Reign of Fire even at 1000 because it's a pearl coverstock that skids more through oil and responds harder to friction. However, it will certainly make it much closer. Pearls with sanded surfaces can give you a really nice ball motion since you get the energy retention for more backend, but the ball reads the midlane more and really wants to grab the lane and hook on the backend. For me, a sanded pearl is my best option when I need to move in and open up the lanes and cover a lot of boards, while polished pearls are better for moving back right and playing more direct angles.

I love to throw storm pearls with 2000 or 4000 abralon surface.
