Hy Road Solid vs. IQ Tour Solid
« on: October 11, 2014, 09:10:31 AM »
Can anybody compare these 2 balls?  Looking for a solid to complete my arsenal. Do not see many Hy Road Solids in the leagues I bowl. Currently have the IQ Fusion  IQ Tour Pearl  Hy Road Pearl and the Oath.  Nothing hits like a solid at the house I bowl. Looking at some Columbia 300 solids but have had good luck with Storm products lately. Looking for a comparison between the Hy Road Solid and the IQ Tour solid if anybody has thrown them both.

I went to a Ball Demo recently and used both the Hysteria and the HyRoad Solid.

Like many demos most balls were drilled neutral right over or under the bridge.

The shot was a little wetter and more blended than it's usual wet/dry and everone liked the Hysterias and Loved the slightly stronger HyRoad Solid!

I loved the dull HyRoad solid on this shot!  Just haven't seen this much oil on a house shot in a while.  A little stronger than the Hysteria.  Both very smooth.

I can't picture what it would really be like on my wet dry house shot.

I worry the Hysteria will be too close to my Fusion. I believe the Hysteria is a hybrid like the Fusion.  Looking for a pure solid ball .  Any other ideas would be great. Best new solid ball on market? Columbia has some interesting new solid balls.

for your original question. the iq tour solid will be earlier and smoother than the hyroad solid. the hyroad solid will also be a touch stronger overall due to the continuation downlane. alot of people like their tour solid more on flatter conditions because they arent looking for anything fancy just a nice medium strong control ball. i see the hyroad solid being the more house shot type ball out of the two although it would be great on sport patterns as well.

as for the columbia balls the disorder is awesome. it would be closer to the tour solid in terms of shape and overall strength due to the low RG.

I have a hard time finding a situation to use my Hyroad Solid in.  It reacts best out of the box, but that surface destroys the track pretty quickly.  Put a little bit of polish on it and it just gets really sensitive.  The core is too weak to get it rolling in the oil, but the coverstock is still fairly strong so it reacts pretty hard when it hits any dry.  Of those two, I would suggest the IQ.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

The Hysteria is a lot different shape than the Fusion, and it IS a solid cover, not a hybrid.

Thanks guys.  Hysteria looks awesome to use on a THS. I just want to make sure the motion is different than my current balls. Looks like it would fit above fusion which is what I am looking for. I could go Hysteria, Fusion  IQTP, Hyroad Pearl and Super Natural. That should work. I do not want to buy a ball I never use on a THS. Sounds like the Hyroad solid would hardly get used at my center. Any thoughts on the new Columbia solids that just came out? The disorder looks good but it is a Hybrid. What is the best new solid ball out ?  Throwdown, Hysteria, etc?

OK,

So now I have thrown the quite impressive Hy Road Solid.  In reviewing older balls.

What is the difference between the T Road Solid, Victory Road solid, and Hy Road Solid.  I can see very little!
Same coverstock and very similar core or same?

Same for the T Road Solid, Victory Road, and HyRoad Pearl?

Yeah, they are all pretty close, I know some people say the newer shells have been "upgraded" I dont, I just think they are new balls.  I have two Hyroads, one poured in 2012 and one poured in 2014, drilled on the same day, identical, and they both react the exact same.

Upon reading Gizmo's comments I have to confess to being quite confused.

I read that the HyRoad Solid, IQ tour, and WipeOut all have R2S solid.

During the matchmaker some used dull and one used polished.  I used an awesome dull version.  A friend used a polished version and she was ecstatic.

In my league one of my teammates uses a polished Wipeout and everyone seems to be ok throwing all night in his wake.

Please clarify on the R2S solid on the Hyroad Solid and it's inability to be polished or used with teammates.  Oh, by the way our oil is Prodigy which I think is considered the oil "on the move".  Just to keep one guessing!

Thanks for the help.

Inability to be polished or used with teammates?  I'm not even sure what language you're speaking.  My only points were that if the Hyroad Solid is left at box surface, it will tear the shot up too fast, if polished it's too weak and sensitive.  I put a P3 hole in it the other day to give it another shot, but it's been a while since I haven't matched up with a ball like this, it just doesn't like me.

Giz,

My language means the following.  I have a righty teammate with a Wipeout with the supposedly same coverstock.  R2S solid.

His is polished, does not seem touchy, in fact it looks good.

His teammates on the right seem to have similar head oil to other bowlers in the house all night.

In the matchmaker I attended recently bowlers had the HyRoad Solid both dull and Polished and bowlers loved it on the wetter shot demo'd that day than we were locally used to.

I guess my question because I matched up so well with the HyRoad solid on a shot wetter than I normally see, is do you think that the R2S used on the HyRoad is a different version than the WipeOut?

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS the HyRoad reminded me of my old polished ProZone Violet one of the best Wetter Top Hat balls I ever used....
