Hyroad vs Crossroad vs Frantic
« on: March 27, 2012, 01:39:23 PM »
Hi Stormers

Is there that much difference between these three balls? I'm looking for something to go under my Nano and Nano pearl...basically for the third game after the oil goes bye-bye!

the crossroad hyroad will be similar in overall strength  but the crossroad will get down lane a little easier and have more backend pop where the hyroad dug a little more in the midlane. both are very versatile though especially with surface changes. taking the polish off the crossroad will give you a closer look to the hyroad.

the frantic is a step below both of the others with the smaller core. from what i have seen its a blend of the crossroad and hyroad reaction shapes.with a midlane read more like the hyroad and the backend continuation of the crossroad. with a stronger pin position i think you could get his ball to match the overall strength of the other 2. i would go with the frantic put a stronger pin placement on it and possibly take the polish off

Not sure if you are talking about 15 or 16lb balls, but I would have to disagree with you about the Crossroad adding more length than the Hyroad, in 15lbs. For me, and everyone I have drilled them for, it has been the complete opposite. Now 16lbs may be a different animal, I haven't drilled any 16lb balls for anyone, I don't know. But for sure, the Crossroad picks up quicker and reads the lane sooner, and more, with more continuation overall than the Hyroad in 15lbs.

I have to agree with Tommy. Crossroad is still very strong off friction, it just wants to get moving earlier and continues through the pins a bit more.  Replacing the Hy-Road with the Crossroad as my benchmark, hasn’t been a seamless transition for me.  You will definitely have to adjust your angles with the Crossroad to get the ball down the lane on most medium THS conditions.  To keep it simple... With the Crossroad, move left, open up your angles a bit and give it a little more room to do it's thing on the lane.

BTW, the scent is very strong.  My whole body smells of carmel candy at the end of the night.  I miss the light fruity scents of  the T-Road series..

I will third the opinions of the previous 2 posts. My crossroad reads pretty early and even with a pin down drilling is very strong and angular off the spot with great continuation. I don't think I have ever left as many 9 pins as I have in the last month with this ball (right handed). I am still learning to use it and have had to make quite a few adjustments to my game for my league shot. I was hoping to get the length of a pearl with the smooth backend of a solid with the crossroad. I ended up with the complete opposite, strong midlane read of a solid with the pop of a pearl on the backend. I'm not saying I'm not happy with it, just different than I originally thought. Now, I just need to find the right ball and layout to get me some more length and smoother backend for when I need that shot (rising star? tropical heat hybrid?).  Looking for some opinions here .

Hmmm, thanks guys. I think I might try the Frantic out as I just need something kinda tame by the 3rd game!

Don't mean to sabotage the thread but I figure I'd ask here since the answer could be compared to the three balls mentioned... Where does the reign supreme fit in here? I'm assuming its between the roads and frantic, but what is the shape and reaction of it compared to the others?

The Reign Supreme for me was alot longer than the Hy-road because of the increased RG of the core.  It came off the spot harder but was at least 2-3 boards less hook.  I haven't thrown the Crossroad yet, but it has a lower RG and higher diff than the Hy-road, so there is no way it won't hook more and sooner than both the Hy-road and the RS.  Assuming all balls drilled identically of course.

Does anyone know or has anyone heard if the Hy-Road is still in production? how much longer they plan on keeping it in the line? Ton of national players still using it!!! I still think when it's time to split hairs thats the go to ball!!!

Gotcha... I have a rapid fire solid that I love, but it overlaps all of my other stuff and I need a ball that rolls similar but just gets downlane a bit better without being overly angular... Chances of finding a rapid fire pearl are remote and I didn't like the victory road, so I was thinking either hy-road or reign supreme. Thanks for the info

Not to hijack, but I wanted some more comment on the reaction differences between 15lb and 16lb as suggested.

from what I have seen, the Frantic is way more angular on the back end then the Hyroad

Not sure about the right side, but my friend who is as picky as they come with his equipment has about 3 Frantics drilled up for tournaments and league and he's on one of the best tears in his life.

3 weeks in a row shooting an honor score with the ball.
