If the IQ Tour Series Changed Covers...
« on: April 06, 2017, 06:11:18 PM »
I've noticed that the IQ Tour Solid has become longer and stronger compared to what it was back in 2012. I have no complaints of that ball still being around. However, I do feel like it's not as good of a control piece anymore as the oils are changing. Many others on ballreviews and other forums/social media sites have made comments on the IQ Tour's reaction nowadays and seem to agree with me. My question to everyone is: What coverbase would you like to see next for the C3 core to use? R2X? R3S? R4S? R3X? ERG? Etc.

Interesting question. If Storm made a move like this I think they should go with the R4S. That wasn't a good match with the Iron Cross (Fight) core but it might be wonderful with the C3.

I agree. Swap the cores and covers. C3 with R4S and Iron Cross with R2S

I've noticed the same thing, made a note of it in my Trick video.  Actually I just wish the IQ Tour Nano was still around, I thought that was the perfect cover for that core, BUT I'm not sure it's the cover that's the issue, it's the core, the diff is too low.  If they bumped the diff to .040-.045, whole new ball.

Couldn't just use the HyRoad solid (or similar) to do this.  That ball wasn't as well liked when it came out.

Overall, I have not had a ton of success with the 4 balls I have had with the C3 core.  I would probably stay away from anything new with that core going forward.

Wasn't the Marvel series line this core shape with more diff, just as you mention?

Kind of exactly what they did with the Trick like you mentioned. Bumped the diff and got a stronger/modernized IQ Tour Solid.

I wonder, if it's longer and stronger with its current, stock surface of 4000 grit, would it be closer to what you perceive it should be IF you took the surface to 2000/2500 grit?

Interesting take. I think most on this site were pretty unimpressed with that ball but in my area it was a huge hit. We see a good amount of oil for house shots though so the stronger cover on that ball working well makes sense.

It will be really interesting to see what the next iteration of the !Q series is though. I don't think Storm will be putting that brand on the shelf and it's about time another one came out.

Well, almost everyone on this site "hooks it so much" and/or bowls on dirt not to mention the overstated need for "weak balls" on house because "I hook it so much I need entry level balls" syndrome on this site. Which has always baffled me with the amount of oil in the middle  of the lane on house shots nowadays since these weaker balls back up in oil then boomerang off friction.

The "perceived" change in reaction some of you are noting is highly likely the result of newer, more viscous lane conditioners coupled with the virtual elimination of a length-wise taper in the today's patterns.

The IQ Tour is still a favorite of almost all Storm/Roto players on both the "kids" and Senior Tour.  If you feel it's not strong enough then hit it with 500 then lightly with 1000 while using a flippy pin length and a wider pin buffer.

I only have about 10-12 games on my iq tour solid

Over 60 on my fusion
Had 20 on a iq nano

And missed the boat on the rest of the IQs.

The fact is I'm sure it's been made overseas with just a out ever cover and and definitely tested.

I feel like I'm the only guy who thinks R2X solid and the R2X hybrid (polished) ...A la VG and VE...Would be enough cover for anyone. It's absolutely my favorite cover...As the R2S is a bit squirty on fresh....

I'd love to see the original colors from the VG and VE on em....I think they'd sell, a ton!

The ball line is missing a sanded pearl oob finish Release as well as a solid dominant hybrid (like the rogue cell)

The lock cover would be cool...

I can keep going haha.

It's a great tournament ball when u need control, or it's a 5:1 or less.  I truly enjoy using different hand positions with the ball, it's great.

Long live the IQ!!
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???
