Why not start her with a Tropical Storm? Color and smell of her choosing.

The general rule is 10% of body weight, I think with her just learning, going with what is comfortable is the best option.

I know it's just a general rule, but I don't think it's a very good one. According to that rule, anyone above 160 should be using a ball heavier than 16, which we all know isn't made. Just use a weight that you can use without getting tired after 2 games.

Yeah, but also remember that house balls rarely fit well. A properly drilled ball can easily be 2 pounds (or more) heavier than a house ball. A female friend of mine started with 10lbs. house balls, then went 12lbs fingertip and is now using 14lbs. with great success.

Tropical - Black/Pink

It has pink.  It smells like bubble gum.  On the bowling side, these are great balls for the price.

So if she was weighing 300(lol), should she be using a 30 lb. bowling ball?

I have never really liked the Tropicals, so my 2 other suggestions are -

Jolt Pearl - relatively good looking ball that is easy to control
RotoGrip Mercury - same as Jolt - but just recently discontinued.  Good looking ball for a girl (pink and light blue swirl)

Jolt Pearl is a bit under-rated when it comes to hook. The ball flat out hooks atleast 8-10 boards for me with close to 500 RPM's. It may be over-statement, but different hand releases, the ball flat out hooks side-ways.

This same situation happened to me.
I got her a Tropical Storm and she did pretty well with it for a little while.  It actually hooked more than I thought it would, at first.
The problem though, it burned out very quickly to the point now I can't even get it to hook.  We cleaned it, scuffed it, nothing.
Like a lot of women starting out, they don't have a large amount of revs on their ball, my wife has about 6-10 on hers.
You might not think of doing this, but I would recommend a stronger ball, I got her a Special Agent and she loves it.  No she isn't averaging 220, but now when she throws a good ball, it moves in the backend and smashes the pocket.
That's my recommendation.
You stop laughing right meow!

try a scout, this ball has a little more forgiveness than a tropical does.
otherwise I'd reccommend a horizon. or if you want top spend some cash the black vendetta is a winner....
