New STORM Ball
« on: April 18, 2004, 11:22:39 PM »
This months BTM shows a new ball by STORM called "Depth Charge". Wow, in looking at the review and what conditions this ball is supposedly capable of handling, there appears to be nothing this ball won't handle.

BTM's overall comment for this ball: "It would be hard to believe there is a condition on which this ball wouldn't work."

BTM's strength comment for this ball: "This ball jnust flat out rolls good. This  is one of those rare balls that can be used for several games even after the pattern breaks down. Just keep chasing the oil line and keep in striking."

This thing's got my attention. Am I going to have to eat my words/eat crow when I said that I would never buy another STORM ball again?

Jeff, I am special. lol

Here are the numbers BTM has given this ball. Just remember, what they say is usually different than what the manufacturer says. Especially on the "Low RG", "high RG", and "Differental."

RG:---------1.8
Diff/Flare--7.9 (Over 6" of flare pontential)
Torque------6.0 (The break point is a strong arc)
Length-----13.0 (Playable on almost any condition. Great versatility)
Back End---14.5 (Ball will make it back to pocket on almost any condition)
Total Hook-47.0 (This ball is straighter on the front and stronger on the back
.................than the "Super Charge."

Oily: 6/8/7
Medium: 9/9/9.5
Dry: 7/6.5/6
Sport: 6/7/5

Additional Comments by BTM: Lower rev rates will love this ball because it is playable on almost any pattern and they don't see that often. Tweener types will be hard pressed to put this one up. Higher rev rates will need to staly away from flatter conditions.

Just saw it tonight on a 3:2 42' sport shot on prodigy. Medium hand, about 40-50 degrees axis. Pin under ring CG kicked out. Pin was about 10:30 to CG.

All I can say is, wow. I'm not usually one to toot any ball's horn, but this ball has a really nice look to it.

Not at all jumpy rolling into the dry, but it gets really decent length too.

Lets just say, it's the first particle pearl I've ever considered buying.

BTM was also dead on when they said: "Lower rev rates will love this ball because it is playable on almost any pattern and they don't see that often". It was able to chase the oil for 8 games with 5 people playing on them & never lose its look or roll out.

Can any of you tell me whats the pros and cons between the Depth Charge and the Animal?  Coz I am about to get the Animal, and this post may change my mind.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly the Animal & Depth Charge are completely different balls. One is Particle pearl symmetrical medium strength core. The other is Solid particle with a SUPER strong asymmetrical core.

I don't know how you could even begin to compare them, they are made for totally different situations.

I guess the place to start would be, what are you looking for your new ball to do, what kind of oil pattern is it on, and what is your bowling style like?

Bj,

I think they are both particle pearl, however I don't have much knowledge about core.  Sorry about the question, I think I should ask which one best fit my game.

I am a tweener, med rev, roughly 30 degree axis tilt, favorite path is standing 30 swing throuth 13-15 at the arrows and arc at 8-10, like to have a ball I can chase the oil and not worry about recovery.  For med-heavy oil.

Thanks again.
