New Street Rods
« on: April 07, 2008, 04:34:03 AM »
Hey All,

Just wanted to get some first impressions on the new Street Rods and perhaps a layout suggestion.

I need a ball for fried lanes and I was wondering if I drilled one of the Street Rods at a 5" (or more) Pin to PAP, which one would be better. My first thought was the Pearl but would that be too jumpy if there was some friction in the heads?

What kind of reaction should I expect if both balls were drilled 5" (or more) Pin to PAP OOB?

FYI: my PAP is 4 3/4"

For fried lanes I think you may be looking at the wrong ball.  I have a Neptune, and sometimes even that's too much.  For fried lanes go plastic.

Okay, not really fried lanes but something to use later in tournaments when everything I currently own is over hooking.

Remember, the Street Rods will have the Reactor coverstock, which is stronger than you think.  It's the same type of cover as we've seen on the Agent, Spit Fire, and Tropical Storm.  Even with a weak core, the Reactor is going to grab the lanes a lot.  I'd say they're going to be more medium to medium light condition balls at best.  And if the lanes are absolutely fried, then yes, plastic might be your best friend.

Go with one of the Jolts. Not the particle version though. ACCU-Tread Cover. Reactor is very strong to be put on a weaker ball such as a Street Rod or Tropical. I purchased a Tropical Storm and had to take a double take looking at that ball reaction. Took it up to 4000 grit and got a better ball reaction though.

How would a Jolt or Jolt Pearl react with a long pin to PAP distance, like 5 or more inches?

Don't shoot the "Messenger", but the Street Rod is using the Messenger cores that was left over from the sell of Columbia to Ebonite! It should be an awesome ball with the Reactor cover and the RG and Diff. will be similar numbers to the HB Hotrod. Just my $.02, Bruce

which also look a lot like upside down Dyno-Thane Element, NE10 (http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=2923),
or Storm Bolt cores ....

Looks to me like the old Power Bolt core. Should be reasonably smooth.

I was told by a Storm rep that they were left over from the sell of the plant in S.A. TX., when he came by the shop for a visit! It could be all of the above since the NE10 was made at the same plant! Thanks, Bruce
