paradigm vs. the one
« on: March 05, 2006, 04:41:21 AM »
for those of you that have one or the other, or both, how do they compare? i'm usually a storm guy but i must say the one looks impressive. i'm struggling with inside lines right now, just can't get a consistent look. which one works better on deeper lines? check my profile for my stats. any help would be appreciated.

Oh boy... wow this is an interesting question with probably a loaded answer to come... I'm going to keep it simple, lol.

I had The One and I have the Paradigm... Notice the words "had" and "have".

I actually was throwing both balls in my arsenal for a while and here's what I can tell you from how they worked for ME. The Paradigm was much more versatile and most importantly to me... it was more PREDICTABLE.

The One tended to skid on oil more than the Paradigm, and contrary to what people say about these balls being similar, they seemed to be very different looks to me. The One gave me more of a "snap" and the Paradigm gave a strong "arc" with a strong backend. I got into more trouble with The One (splits, buckets, you name it!), so needless to say, I sold it.

Now, this is my opinion and I may play an entirely different game than you, so take it for what it's worth. The One is a tremendous ball... I just prefer the Paradigm for my game. Happy shopping!

Brook, you should of tried changing the surface a bit before getting rid of the ball.  The One has more backend and carry is much better.  Adjusting the surface will allow you to use it on more conditions.  The One is sanded to 400 grit before high gloss factory polish. Little surface makes a big difference

thanks slop, i have seen both in action, but mostly people who just fireball down the lane. personally, i'll sacrifice power anyday as long as i can hit the pocket consistently. i have enough power naturally, so i tend to take control of the pocket as a priority when thinking of drilling new stuff. thanks for the response!

LOL, ummm yeah, I adjusted the surface. I wouldn't let it go THAT easy!

I found it to be best at 1000 grit abralon, actually, but I tried MANY different surfaces on it (500 abralon, 1000, 1500, 2000, 4000, 320 with polish, 500 with polish, 1000 with polish, 320 with step-2 compound, 500 with step-2 compound, etc...).

Also, I have to disagree about your comment, "carry is much better"... I totally disagree. I left more squirty pocket splits and single pins with The One than almost any other ball I've ever owned. But, again, that was ME. Other people may have different results. Also, I have to correct you about the factory finish on the one... It's taken to 4000 grit before polish... not 400. And it's 4000 ABRALON, just to clarify.

Every opinion needs to be taken with a grain of salt for sure... It's all subjective.

It all depends on what you are looking for.  I have both the one and Paradigm.
The has a snappy backend (surface dwn to 1000) and the Paradigm (box finish) has a smooth arching backend.  Both are drilled the same, to go long and strong.
Both have tremendous backends.

The major difference I see in the Paradigmâ„¢ vs the One is how much better the Paradigmâ„¢ reads transition.  The One searches for friction until it finds it then releases all of its energy.  The Paradigmâ„¢ is going to give you a much better read through the transitions of the oil pattern and will not squirt nearly as much as the One at any significant sniff of oil.  The Paradigmâ„¢ is a ball I have been able to use on many PBA conditions and house patterns with ease and adapt easily to any changes I may see while the Ebonite guys around me are often looking puzzled as to what is happening in the breakdown while throwing their 4000 grit polished Ones.

I have the Paradigm and have thrown the One. Bottom line to me is the Paradigm gives me a better mid lane read. The one is more of a classic "skid/snap" reaction.

If you blame the lane conditions for your bad scores, then you had better thank them for your good ones!!

well, for one thing i have the trifecta, and it's a very good ball, but i don't think it's as strong as i thought it would be, but it could be the drilling i have on it. so i was thinking maybe the paradigm or the one to go with the trifecta. so you guys think the paradigm works better crossing boards? thats where i'm struggling a little now. the trifecta is more of a smooth rolling ball for me, but if i get on a heavier pattern it will probably be stronger than i think! maybe just not enough oil for the trifecta.
