Pro Pin Balls, are they worth it?
« on: March 10, 2004, 11:48:21 AM »
OK, i have seen these balls on EBAY, saying they are Pro Pin, and they are what the PRO's like to use cuz they create big flare and big backend, and bla bla bla,

well my cousin won a Super Charge from ebay, well when he got the ball it had a 6 1/2 inch pin, with 1.68top weight.   well he had the box in his car, along with the ball, and on the box, it had a sticker saying PRO PIN.  he also said it came with a specific instruction book for drillings.

Anyways his ball got drilled with the Pin out on his PAP, and the CG is way over in the Negative side, about 1inch above his thumb.   I couldnt believe this drilling, but he told me the ball hooks like crazy lol.

I am wondering if all PRO PINS come like this, and need a drilling something like this too?

Well, if you were to look at my cousins bowling ball, its worth a good laugh, cuz the drilling is very interesting lol.

but yes he said it took a while for his friend to drill up the ball.  And i would think it is a blem, but who knows.

I did see, a guy using a old T2rhino that had a 8inch pin, the CG was below the thumb and the Pin was a couple inches above the fingers lol.  and it had a Nice 2 in the middle of the B

Leftside, I agree, I've never seen the "Pro Pin" designation before either.  As far as I know, this is nothing more than a marketing ploy.  Most of the equipment I see at regionals have pins in the 2-4" range.  There is an occasional ball with a real long pin-to-cg, but from what I've seen, that is more the exception than the rule.

I think its a scam.. I spoke to my pro shop guy (who is a PBA member and on the Track staff) and he said the balls the pros get off the truck are just like the ones we buy and drill up..

Its amazing at some of the prices people are paying for these supposed "pro pin" balls..

If they only made a ball that would carry that d*mn 10 pin..

I just looked at a few of these on ebay.  It is a scam to get higher than normal prices for balls with extremely long pin outs.

never heard of a pro pin

they are just trying to make it seem more appealing

1.68 top and 6.5 pin

both of those would make it a blem

add the 2 together and he got ripped big time if he paid more than $40

While I agree it's a scam, especially when related to E-bay, I seem to recall the drill sheets that came with my X-Factor mention Pro Pin balls -- I think it was associated with 4"+ pins...

the seller bowlingballs.com is the major scammer . . .

the "pro pins" are simply longer pin length balls, like 4" plus to 6" plus.  you can get one when you or your pro shop order a ball if you'd like.  these longer pins are used for different types of drillings, like pin above fingers and still have thumb wieght.  just different, not necessarily "exotic."

Don't know how to do the link but a few of the auction numbers are 3665645993, 3665234117, from bowlingball.com, and there is another 3666120041 from another seller.

I just went to bowling balls on e bay typed in Pro Pin, and to look in titles and descriptions and a page came up with them.

Toasty:

The thing is, is that people are paying much more than a regular ball.  They think they are getting something special, but really just a blem that you said Storm has labeled Pro Pin.

But I don't think the seller minds the people's ignorance!!  Cha-ching!! $$

Great topic everyone!

The PRO-PIN balls are ones that we regularly use to supply the National Staff players on the truck. Frequently the guys out on the tour will use a ball with the pin above the fingers, cg and/or RAD swung way out towards the PAP, and a large extra hole. This layout generally clears the heads well and still provides heavy midlane roll. I am actually taking a Triple X just like this one with me to the ABC Nationals this weekend.

These balls really roll great. You will get more midlane roll out of a 5 to 5.5" pin from PAP than ever before.

To help with layout options, special drill instructions are included in each box as well.

Good luck everyone...
