Wondering about how the Rapid Fire holds up on the heavy oil? I see it has the same cover as a T-Road Solid, but a 1500-grit polish vs. 1000-grit Abralon. Anybody played around with the Rapid Fire's cover to handle the heavier volumes?

We all saw what the RFS can do with a heavier pattern such as Shark on yesterday's telecast in what appeared to be OOB condition. I think the R2S skin on the RFS is very tuneable and would make a very nice oiler if you had to.

The Rapid Fire is one of the most versatile balls I've thrown in years. I've tried it at a range of surfaces to get different looks and I haven't had a problem with predictability. Handles the heavy oil real well and as opposed to the T-Road Solid, has a stronger roll for me as a T-Road is very smooth with a ton of drive. Neither are bad to have in situations encountering Heavy Oil. When I feel like I am in trouble, my Rapid Fire Solid is one of my top two options between the RFS and the Shift to go to depending on lane condition.

I agree with ACTS, the Rapid Fire cover is very tunable. I have one that I keep between 1000 and 2000 and it is super agressive in the midlane, with the signature Rapid Fire backend. It can handle plenty of oil IMO.

I've got 2 of the solids, each with different layouts. One is a high pin 5.5 to PAP at 1000 abralon. The other is low pin 4.5 to PAP at 2000 abralon. I agree with what the other posters have said- this is a tremendous piece and extremely versatile. The core-cover matchup on it is superb. I was surprised at how strong the ball is even with the 1500 polished box cover. I dulled them up just to smooth the reaction a bit. I have used them both on all the PBA patterns and they all react strong and predictably. You wouldn't be disappointed.

Interesting that PA switched to the RF from a T-Road Solid on the Shark in the third game. Reading all these responses makes me want to pick one up!

Both balls are great. I enjoy both of them very much. Both are very versital in how you drill them and how they can react due to surface changes. The Troad solid does seem to start up a bit sooner and have a heavier roll where my rapid fire seems to give me more length and a bit more angular backend. What I think makes these balls so good is that R2S coverstock. One of the best coverstocks I think storm has.

I think it depends on 3 things the type of reaction you want out of the ball, oil shot, and also how you throw it. How about some specs. ALso how much do you like your troad pearl?

I throw medium revs and medium speed. Definitely a tweener... I'm much more comfortable playing the outside line than the inside.

My T-Road Pearl is by far my favorite ball. I love how I put it down anywhere between the 8-12 board and it always seems to find it's way to the pocket, even on a variety of lane conditions. I've found it to be more versatile for me than my Gravity Shift.

I rarely see heavy or even fresh oil, so I don't think a Virtual Gravity or Dimension is in order. I've been frustrated when the Gravity Shift slides through the oil or the carry-down. I know there are adjustments to be made in those situations, but equipment changes are one adjustment I like to make!

Well nothing against the rapid fire but I would suggest the T-road solid for the facts that you enjoy your troad pearl so much so y not have similar motion for the heavier stuff wich the solid could handle. That is just my suggestion. Although I dont think you can go wrong with either ball.
