Reign and carrydown?

Has anyone else found that the Reign isn't good on carrydown? I've used it to much success on fresh oil. However, today after work I bowled on lanes that were previously bowled on by a league. It was over/under for me, wouldn't finish if I was a little inside and would hook brooklyn if I moved out. I then switched to an Inferno at 4000, moved 5 boards left, and it worked like a charm. Long story short, the Reign (at box surface) = good for fresh, not so good for carrydown?

On longer patterns the Reign can be a little skiddy on carrydown.  I found that other then fresh the Reign works good on shorter patterns with carrydown, ie, 35-38 ft.. Longer patterns like a 40 ft house shot can turn into a 42/43 ft shot with carrydown which is too long for the Reign. The Reign of Fire with a pin up drilling works great on carrydown with a 2000-4000 finish.

In general, I think most pearlized balls struggle on carrydown. Their are/have been exceptions to that, but for the most part solid coverstocks tend to fair better in those situations. If you're looking to use a Reign on carrydown, I'm guessing you'd have to take the surface down to give it the extra traction it would need.

Thats kinda what I was refering to when I said that.  I bowl in regionals and love the Reign on the Cheetah once you get carrydown, but it's a shorter pattern.  The Cell Pearl works really well on medium patterns with carrydown, so I use it on the Viper(37) and Chameleon(39) but it has a stronger midlane which is the key to a pearl ball on carrydown. You have to use a pearl that is strong enough for the conditions, otherwise it will be over/under. If you are leaving ringing 10's with a pearl, touching the surface with 4000 usally does the trick. I alomst always use a pearl in carrydown because solids read too much midlane causing flat 10's.  I only use solids in carrydown on patterns over 42 ft or really heavy oil no less than 40 ft.

To add to my other post, I like pearls on carrydown because of my slower speed. If you have a high ball speed or lower rev rate you may need something stronger in carrydown.  I have friends that use polished Mutants, Virtual Gravity's, and Invasions because they throw 17-19 mph.  So what works for one may not for another.

I think I have posted this before and i will again. Take a 2000 pad and lightly scuff the surface of the reign. It will read "light" carry down. The core of this ball is a later revving core and if you lightly scuff the surface the ball will read very well. trust me on this.

I like the Reign how it is, I don't want it for carrydown. I was just trying to see if other people were experiencing the same thing with me with a polished surface. Thanks.

I think using pearlized equipment on carrydown is excellent if you know how to use it correctly.

Usually, when using pearl equipment on carrydown it is required that you have a hook spot to throw at in the first 35 feet of the lane so the ball can make its turn towards the pocket and then just drive towards the pocket with a ton of forward roll. If you like to stay up the back of the ball there is no easier shot in the world than lanes with a defined hook spot in the front and carry down in the back.

I dont know but I love my Reign for carry down, it works great for me.

My friend has a complete NV and that ball gets real squirrely on carry down but my Reign keeps working great. To me the Reign does not like alot of dry, I start leaving some real weird spares to shoot at.

I'm with you on that one.  I use me Reign alot on Cheetah with carrydown or Viper with carrydown on wood lanes.  I used it too many games once on the Cheetah and left 4-9 in the 9th, and 4-7-10 in the 10th.  What a way to finish a game.
