second deminsion versus gravity shift
« on: March 04, 2009, 12:32:01 AM »
just curious. the shift was toughted as a ball for medium to heavy lanes.I have on edrilled pin down just right of ring mb strong and it is a good ball but is not a heavy oil ball in my hand.it has ok back end and good carry on the right shot.
I was wondering if the second demensin was any better in longer oil. particularly looking for the ball to go to when the vg is too much for the lanes, because the shift ,in my hand is way to weak for this.

Did you adjust the coverstock on the Gravity Shift?  The OOB polish on Storm balls will never handle oil very well for most bowlers.  The best reaction I got from mine was using Valentino Bowling's Resurrection product to rough up the surface, then polishing it lightly by hand with Snake Oil.  This gave it a nice midlane read and arching backend I could switch to once my Dimension started to hook too early.  I have since replaced the Gravity Shift with a Second Dimension, and I adjusted the Second Dimension to 2000 abralon plus a coat of Snake Oil polish applied by hand.  This gives me a reaction that's about three boards stronger than the Gravity Shift, but more similar in shape to the Dimension, which gives me better carry than most asymmetric equipment.  (OOB, the Second Dimension was oil-allergic and very skid-snap, but this surface adjustment really brought it to life)

I have both balls as well and both with the same layout 4 1/2 x 4 pin up above ring. Both with box finish. For me the Gravity Shift handles more oil than the 2D. The Gravity Shift allows me to swing the ball more and it has a very good heavy roll through the pins. The 2D allows me to play more straight up and not worry about it over reacting off the friction. It is very smooth and predictable. I have had a chance to practice a couple of times on the USBC shot with both and for me they offer a great one two punch. The Gravity I can play 20 at the arrows to 9 and smash the pocket and the 2D gives me the same from 15 arrows to 10 break point. That's just my 2 cents.
