Since the Ace is discontinued...
« on: May 27, 2006, 02:26:50 PM »
Could I do this:

Heavy: Vertigo at 600 (Stacked)
Medium Heavy Sanded Particle: Trifecta at 2000 (?-label-?)
Medium Heavy: Dark Thunder (Drilled to be Rolly)
Medium: Fired Up (Drill this Strong)
Light Medium: Hotrod Hybrid (Drill this for length and backend)

I know I know the Passion. I love the Vertigo and Ive thrown one stacked and it was a freaking beast! I dont know why I got rid of it. I LOVED that ball.

What are you replacing the Ace with?  The Fired Up?  The Trifecta resurfaced to 2000?

I have an Ace that I love that is on its last legs that I will need to replace soon.  I have been contemplating a Pyro, another Ace, or waiting a couple more months for a pearl particle Agent.

Personally I don't think there are any balls that react the same as a pearl particle.  They are the perfect blend of pearl length and particle traction that you can't get in any other cover type IMO.  I have seen mixed reviews of the Ace - but too me it is the perfect ball for medium - longer oil shots.

Actually the pyro is sort of like the ace, if you were to give the pyro a little bit of surface. I know the people who look for similarities on paper will say it's not but on the lanes i've thrown both and i would say they rolled similar for me.

Well I was thinking the Trifecta. Because the Ace I was throwing was at 2000. Well If I got a Trifecta, Drilled it Labeled, and stuck it at 2000 instead of 800 do you think it would fit in that spot well? I figured with a Label drilling its strong but not as strong and at 2000 its not going to grab as much oil. I heard about this ball and maybe figured i could use it for the Ace. I might get a Pyro lol. I thew my friends and had the front 9 and then left the bucket. I love that ball, just not sure about it yet. Ill probably get one sooner than later though.

I have a Vertigo (box finish) and I could see getting a similar reaction to the Ace by finishing it to 1500-2000 and putting some polish to it.  However, I stand by my earlier statement that nothing reacts like a pearl particle.  I'm sure you can get some extra length by sanding and polishing the Trifecta, but I don't think it will retain energy like the Ace when turning the corner.  If you don't want to replace the Ace with another Ace I agree with TheDude - go with a Pyro.

correction for my last post - I meant Trifecta - not Vertigo.

p.s., I have a Vertigo like you and I can't see replacing it with a Passion.  I get that the Passion is a great ball (my wife throws one) but my Vertigo is turning out to be my go-to ball these days.  Over the past month I have averaged over 230 with it.

The Trifecta is a stronger ball over all, stronger surface, stronger core. But the pyro is a pearl particle but out of box is shined. With a grey pad you'd see side by side the ace and the pyro with the right drilling would be similar.

As for passion VS Vertigo for me> I had 2 Vertigos, neither one really hooked the way I would have liked for what i generally see. It was too early and then smooth in the backend but often was just mushy. The passion on the other hand has the midlane of a particle ball and just sheer traction of any particle ball but the backend still of a reactive.

for me the score was 2 vertigos drilled( they were ok) VS 4 passions drilled and they have all scored on a boarder range of conditions.
