Special Agent for heavy
« on: April 10, 2007, 11:45:16 AM »
With the right drilling surface prep, could this ball replace my Strike Zone? (drilling in profile) I have wanted this ball for a long time now and would really like to get it to go above my Black Widow. Thanks!

With the same drilling and same surface prep i think the Strike Zone will be smother at the break than the Special Agent. The Special Agent does have a ver smooth breakpoint, but this is a storm ball we are talking about. I am yet to see one storm ball come out of the factory that dosnt FLIP. Basically, they are both great pieces for heavier volume of oil, id just say that the Special Agent will provide a little more pop on the backend.

Thanks. I wasn't really looking to top the Strike Zone, just to replace it. Thanks for the input, anyone else?

The Special Agent would really go higher in standards compared to the Strike Zone. Higher in standards - I mean quality coverstock, the Agent core, and the beautiful smell.

On the real though - The Special Agent will probably handle as much oil as the Strike Zone does, but a whole lot angular off of break point. I love the ball, it is amazing.

My SA (drilled label leverage) is very smooth and rolly and kind of arcs gradually throughout the lane.  I wouldn't consider it to be very angular at all but I haven't thrown a Strike Zone so I can't compare.

I agree with pretty much everything said here.  I've owned a Strike Zone so I can compare.  The Special, while smooth by Storms standards, goes longer and gives you more angle off the friction then a Strike Zone would--  Bottom line, Storms R2S coverstock responds more aggresively to friction than anything I have seen.

Side note...They put a ton of coverstock on this ball.  If you look into your weight hole you will notice how thick the coverstock is.

These are the comparisons we need.  One thing I will say though, you say it responds more aggresively off of friction, but I will say that it is very controllable or I know I wouldn't be able to use it.

You mean angular for a dull solid but not angular in general?  That I could see.  You are right on the comparison with other dull balls in the USBC mag.  I think what I thought I was seeing with the SA was more overall hook so it covers more boards but does it gradually throughout the lane.

I was using the Triple XTreme before the SA and it seemed to be totally nutty even when it was dull (I had it drilled for a tame arcing motion).  The only way I could control it consistently was to take a lot of side roll out of it.  Once I did that, it worked fine.  With this ball I can roll it off my hand and put my natural amount of side turn on it and it isn't going to take off on me unless I totally blow the shot.

Another dull solid I was using before that was the Dark Thunder and that one was very nice and smooth going down the lane.

I only need one dull ball for my league so it isn't a major need for me.

Now you slap a high gloss polish on a R2S coverstock and you have a ball that goes longer and violently reacts to friction on the back  (T-Road Pearl).  If you've ever seen a T-Road crush the pocket then you will know that thing brings a lot of energy and angle with it.   Could you imagine an Agent with an R2S coverstock and that big Core, watch out!

I was thinking of trying this because it would be totally sick.  Right now it works good the way it is so I haven't done it yet.

I was wondering if they would do that or just stick with the Reactor Pearl on the Agent.  Should be interesting to see...
