Special Agent is Special
« on: January 29, 2007, 02:06:53 AM »
Unbelievable, have not broken 600 in weeks.   Second week with the Special Agent, 40 ft long pattern, 216, 246, 242!   I have never had a ball with such continuous backend turn.   Not a huge left turn off the dry but a very nice hard turn.   Was able to get in deep!
If I could only bowl my weight, I still would not average 200.   But hey I still damm sexy!

Good to hear.  I just picked one up this weekend.  So far, I am very happy.

Fluff-Sully, what kind of conditions are you using the Special Agent on? A lady I bowl with in a mixed league that has a 184 average throwing a Legends ball, bought a Special Agent 4 weeks ago and she hasn't even had a 500 series with it yet. Her series' have ranged from 432 to 487.

Brick,

My team captain in my Friday night league (185 or so average bowler on a THS) picked one up just before Christmas.  I bet he hasn't shot over 550 with the Special Agent.  As mentioned, this is on a medium oil THS.  He was using a Hammer Blue Vibe I sold him and occassionally shooting low to mid 600 series.

The highest average in this same league (225), has made it look, well, special.  Guess it must be a case of one bowler matching up well, and the other one not matching up.

For me it is rolling earlier and stronger than my Thunderstruck Solid.  I am using the Thunderstruck as a benchmark so when that one isn't making the move I want I'll switch to this one.

This worked well the other day when I was practicing.  This ball definitely bailed me out in that situation.  My Thunderstruck seemed to be turning too late so I tried out the SA and then it was a strikefest.  For league, it is going to be a matter of getting a feel for the ball.  I am used to only using one ball in league so I still have to "learn" where to play this this ball in the situations I want.   I am 100% sure that this one is going to work though because I found it near the end of the first game.

As far as matching up goes, I wanted a ball that got into a good roll and had a smooth/controllable hook like my Thunderstruck.  This ball does that.  I also wanted more of a midlane reaction over a huge backend reaction.

If you wanted this ball to play like a different ball, I could see someone being confused by it.  It definitely does what it is supposed to do and it has insane carry for me.  I guess this is the "technology" that is ruining bowling scores?  Oh well, I guess I will jump on board like everyone else.

Brickguy/Direct, my guess is that they are using it on the wrong pattern. This ball rolls EARLY. On medium THS it will burn off too much energy and die on the end and won't carry. I use mine primarily on longer patterns and tighter inside angles. Mine is in box condition. Polishing it will make it more usable on THS. Hope this helps.

I love the ball with a passion. I have a low trace with about 16 MPH on the ball and htis ball just devistating when it hits the pins. Becuase of the low track, I have this drilled to roll early and how I am loving it. Just shot my high series with it (733) and it helped me get my JOG spot.

I specifically bought this ball for a medium to heavier 40ft pattern that I have been seeing.   So far I have been using one ball for the enitre 3 game block.  I needed a ball with alot more midlane recovery and a very controlled breakpoint that is allowing me to play inside.   For me personally I have never had a ball that was so forgiving on a longer pattern that revs so easily in the mids.   I absolutely love it.   I have tried the ball on shorter patterns and if I do not follow the oil, the ball just does not have the energy and hits like a pancake.   The ball for me is for those higher volumes and longer tighter shots.    On the THS, I have been bouncing back and forth with the TRoad Pearl and Thunderstruck Solid.

Brick,

I just got this ball from Anne Marie and used it at Penn44 lanes which is synthetic with a lot of head oil and the oil is pretty heavy out to around 5.  I played inside with this ball and never had a problem getting it back to the pocket and finishing.  Great ball for certain conditions.

Yeah I agree with that oil comment.  This is when the Special Agent looked like a godsend.  I just saw a thread yesterday where someone had a few of these and set up each one differently and they loved the ball too.  I would say if someone is having a problem with this ball it has to be using it on the wrong condition or maybe expecting it to do something that it isn't supposed to.

Like KR300 said, maybe try putting some polish on the ball and see if that fixes the problem?

Polishing the Special Agent ball will create much more skid-snap raction. I have four of these balls. I drilled one up for the THS, smoothed with a 4000 Abralon pad and highly polished it, and for maximum storage of energy and this ball whacks the THS for me. The others are box finish for heavier volumes.

Well just beat my high series by a pin, 734, with the Special Agent, shot 258, 197, 279. Should have shot 760 (missed a seven pin in the first and second game), but I will take it, this ball is amazing.

I just used this ball again last night.  It bailed me out yet again!  I am really starting to get a feel for this ball.  It too makes me giddy like the Thunderstruck Solid.

Continuous/smooth roll.  Strikes-a-plenty!

Glad to hear you like it.  I really like my Agent and would like to pickup a Special Agent, but I have too much equipment as it stands now.  How do you have it drilled?

Fluff- Does it hook too much, too early?

Well that depends on what you are looking for...  Just right for me may be too early or too late for the next guy.

What it does it hook a really good amount and is very smooth.  It hooks more overall than my Thunderstruck Solid but also earlier so I can use it in different situations.

If you want a smooth rolling ball with great hook potential this one will work nice.  I didn't want some crazy backend reaction or uncontrollable angular stuff.  This thing has all the hook but with predictability.

It has done well for me on longer oil and also on some carrydown.  I love this ball so far.  Now I am kind of looking forward to oily conditions which is weird coming from me.
