Storm DNA Coil Review
« on: March 20, 2024, 07:27:19 PM »
The Storm DNA Coil features the EXO Pearl Reactive cover, Supercoil Core, and reacta gloss finish. The coil is the second ball in the DNA line with the first being a solid. I was not sure about this ball but it is surprisingly good. I have the Coil as pretty clean though the fronts and plenty of shape down the lane, more of a hockey stick hook. I compared it to the Blackout and have the Blackout overall a touch stronger than the Coil. The Blackout was earlier and a bit smoother than the Coil. When the Blackout is picking up too early and you need something to get down the lane further but still strong when it sees the friction, the Coil will be a great option. Another great ball in the Storm catalog!

Ball Specs:
Storm DNA Coil
Reacta Gloss EXO™ Pearl Reactive
Weight Block: Supercoil™ Core (Asymmetrical)
Color: Scarlet/Persian Blue/Raven

Review:
We were very big fans of the original DNA. Sometimes with new cover and core combos you never really know what to expect but it worked very well for our games. Putting a pearl cover around that core really made the DNA line that much sweeter. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This ball is clean, not quite as clean as a summit peak for example but in our eyes that is a good for that first out of bag asymmetrical piece where you don’t really want that extremely long snappy shape. This ball is a carry monster with the angular shape it creates. It is probably our favorite release of 2024 so far. We see this as our first out of bag bowling ball for multiple patterns for that game 1 to game 2 scenario before balling down to a symmetrical piece.

BIG Asym Pearl but surprisingly very controllable. What I love the most about the DNA Coil is that I am getting a very big pearl that is controllable off the spot. The Coil has plenty of backend and hitting power but is not a check mark for me. It makes the move and just keeps its forward roll through the pocket and explodes the pins. For me the Coil is going to be a ball that I can start out with and migrate more towards the middle throughout league or through a tournament block and be in my hand for a while. For most, the DNA Coil will be something you use at the beginning of league and or in the front of a block and change out of it. I think this is going to be a fantastic ball and a surprise to many. Go get to your local pro shop and talk to your pro shop person and see if the DNA Coil is going to fit into your arsenal.

The DNA Coil by Storm is the newest addition to the Premiere Line. This ball provides excellent mid lane read while giving effortless length, allowing the ball to make a strong move off the back end of the lane. I can see this ball being a great step down from a Harsh Reality, before needing to the get into symmetric pieces. Get yours today and don’t forget to bowl up a Storm!

The second addition to the DNA line is the DNA Coil. The Coil uses the EXO pearl cover stock, polished with reacta gloss. My layout on this ball was 35x3.5x40 I wanted to get this ball to pick up fast and still have energy down lane to go through the pins correctly. What i found is I needed to hit this ball with a 3000 pad. Once I did this ball was really strong and is a stable in my bag. If you liked the DNA solid you will really like the Coil and what it brings to the table.

Review:
The Storm DNA Coil for me is an upgrade on the original DNA. This ball reads the midlane very well and has a nice move on the back end. The ball is very predictable for a strong shiny ball. I am not seeing any over under from this ball. For me this will be a medium to heavy oil condition ball. I left the DNA Coil at box surface and would put it between my IQ Ruby and Summit Peak in total hook. This is another good strong ball from SPI. What I like most about this ball is how it plays as the oil breaks down and the lanes transition. I am able to make confident moves and stay in my comfort zone.

Summary:
The DNA Coil is strong and predictable.
The hit and carry is very good.
I like this version better than the original.
