Storm Ride
« on: September 15, 2016, 09:36:22 PM »
I have become very fond of the Storm Ride. It doesn't force me super left (right handed) like many balls I've tried lately. My question is this, what ball and can be any brand, would give me that step up option? I love how clean it rolls and how smooth it reacts.

I would like to find something that when the oil volume warrants it, I can step up a ball and get a similar reaction. I haven't pin pointed what aspect of the Ride is the root cause, whether it be the diff, rg, coverstock, etc but I like it and want some family members for it!

Look at the 900 Global X. Smooth motion and can handle mediums well.

I will have to check it out! I was looking into the Wrecker, Venom Shock, and Venom Cobra so far.

The Ride seems smooth, where the Wrecker is hard off the spot, then the Cobra being less jerky off the spot, then the Shock being the smoothest of the 3, but more ball than just a step up. I'd recommend a Boost in its place, but for me, the Pearl is long then left turn Clyde. If you're looking for some pop off the spot, then a Boost would work. If you're digging the smooth aspect, the X is good.

Say I go with the 900G X. Would the IQ Tour Solid make sense as then the next hop to round out (no pun intended) a full smooth motion arsenal?

I would say so, because I've seen some outstanding Tour IQ's in my day. IMO, Tour Solid would be smoother than a Shock.

The smooth rolling ball that can be used well on medium oil is something I've also been looking into. Lots and lots of options out there for something in that mold. If it helps I've "narrowed down" my possibilities to the X, Danger Zone, Rave On, Sideswipe, Delirium Shock, Severe Delirium, any Game Breaker 2, Rebel, Viral Solid, Heat, Heat X-Treme, IQ Tour, Forza GT, and Venom Shock.

Quite the small selection...  ;D I will probably wait a bit and see what comes along at the best price. Debating the pros and cons of all of them makes my brain scream for mercy.

For what it's worth I wouldn't recommend the Wrecker for this group. Every one I've seen is anything but smooth. Still good, but not the type of reaction I would want for a similar step up from the Ride.

Ha I see you have definitely narrowed it down. I will certainly research those selections and see what I'm thinking as well. I'm starting to lean away from the Wrecker as I'm hearing a general consensus on its motion.

What is your take on the Hy-Road for this?

I've seen the Hy-Road be a nice smooth ball for some and for others it's more true to it's core numbers and flippy on the backend. I would play it safe with one of the other options for a smooth reaction but at the same time it's hard to go wrong with a Hy-Road. Great ball either way.

Any thoughts on the Hyroad in 12 or 13 lb weights?

Coor,

When you were narrowing the field down, did you compare these 4 as well:

DV8 Outcast
900G Drift
Brunswick Soul
Brunswick Vintage Gold Rhino Pro

Didn't look into the Soul, but the Drift and Outcast are a bit weaker than what I'm looking for. Gold Rhino Pro could definitely be on that list though. Maybe the Wreck-It too, although I want some more information on it's motion. If it is a smoother ball that might be what I end up going with.

Basically looking for a smoother medium oil ball to pair with the Unhinged and go over the Outcry but under the Jackal LE and Mastermind Intellect. Using an older Totally Defiant with surface for that spot right now and it's still working well but it's starting to crack around the fingers. At the same time maybe I'm not looking for a smoother medium oil ball and something closer to what the Totally Defiant is now... Ugh.

Anyone tried a surface change to their Ride? Thinking of hitting it with a 3000 pad.

I did that for awhile, but I liked mine better with polish. I wish my Ride didn't crack
