Storm/Roto Replacement for a Virtual Energy
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:31:28 AM »
I have a teammate that has had great success with a Virtual Energy. Ball has had some major busting out around the fingers going to the pin. Can be fixed but will take some time and work. Meanwhile he would like to get something newer that would be similar in reaction or maybe even alittle stronger downlane then then Virtual Energy.  I have a couple ideas in mind for him, but id like to hear what you guys have to say. I currently throw a lot of Storm/Roto equipment, but I tend to stay away from assym. cores. So you guys can maybe help me find a replacement for him.

Thanks

Byte. There's really no question for that one unless you also wanted to consider a Totally Defiant

OMG a byte! It was the first thing that popped into my head the first time I threw it.

It is my strongest down lane motion in my entire arsenal btw.

Wow! If that is indeed the case, how does the Byte compare to your Sync, in terms of downlane motion?  (sorry for jacking your thread)

No comparison,  the Sync is stupid early and lets you know in hurry when to bag it. Flat tens, buckets. The Byte, I've never seen a asymmetric ball backend as much as this ball when getting in on the lane.

Where does the Lucid fall in with the Byte as far as overall hook and shape??

So do you guys feel the Byte will be overall stronger then the Virtual Energy??

My lucid is in between ...A bit earlier move like a rollier critical theory.  I want to shine mine up to see a direct comparison as it is the same cover.  The lucid isn't really something I'd recommend,  MAYBE if the lucid was polished.

Track900,

I have been off of the scene for a while and only started bowling again in the past six months.  I am starting to get the itch again.

I still own a Virtual Energy from way back in '09.  I just recenly purchased a Byte and I purchased a Lucid when I started up again.

If I could do a quick comparison of the three, I would say that the Byte is the weaker of the three.  However, it is designed to be strong on the backend.  I can go to the Byte when the Lucid is too much ball.  The Byte compliments my Lucid very well.  Both the Lucid and the Byte are OOB.  I prefer the look of the Lucid but the Byte is by no means a slouch.  It is a very strong ball when there is some dry at the back of the pattern.  My Byte handles carrydown very well, too.

The VE and Byte were at 1500 polish from the factory.  I prefer the VE without the polish.  However, my Byte is just too new to play with the surface, just yet.  I will say that it does not like a long pattern at all, but if you give it some dry boards, then it will recover from just about anywhere.  And like the others have stated, it does not appear to be jumpy at all.  My VE was "violent" off of the dry when it was new at 1500.  The Byte is not violent at the break, but because of the strong core, you know that it is coming back!

Honestly, I prefer to use the Lucid and Byte as a team.  The VE does not get much time these days because the new boys are "new".  LOL!  I will probably get the new IQ Tour Fusion next month, so the the VE will get even less time.

IMHO, Storm needs a strong hybrid in their line.  I plan to take the polish off of the TF as soon as I get it.  Maybe that will be it!  LOL!

Peace!

If you really need a strong hybrid DCNetBoy look at the Roto Grip Defiant Soul, it's a great ball and from the Storm Family

SVstar34,

LOL!  I don't want the Soul.  I want my balls to smell good!  LMAO!

Seriously, I have only purchased one Roto Grip ball, which was a hybrid.  The Rogue Cell.  I am waiting for the forthcoming Hyper Cell Hybrid.  LOL!  ;) ;D

Peace!
