surface change question..
« on: January 17, 2007, 05:34:04 AM »
When changing the surface is there a certain process that needs to be done or just sand with an abralon pad or what???  Should I be wet sanding or dry or depends on what I want??  I've never messed with my ball surfaces before so Im kind of tentitive because I dont want to ruin any of my equipment.

You won't ruin your equipment by changing the surface...you may screw it up for the condition on which you intend to bowl (too dull for a drier surface or too polished on an oily condition) but that can easily be fixed by taking it to someone who knows what they are doing...

If you don't sand equally around the ball, you can get it out of round.  I've heard six-sided sanding is supposed to keep that from happening.  Also that wet-sanding is preferable to dry-sanding as it keeps the dust from building up, lubricates the ball some, and prevents the surface from getting too hot.

Point taken. I guess I should not have assumed that folks would know to sand the ball equally.  And with some of the "intelligent" people that post on this board, I'm sure there are several lopsided balls out there...thump, thump, thump...no that's not the sound of a ball rolling over the finger/thumb holes, its the sound of a lopsided ball rolling over the knot left from uneven sanding...
