Thumb Slug or No Thumb Slug
« on: November 22, 2006, 09:01:37 AM »
I am just about to purchase the Domination by Storm.  I was just wondering if anyone had any feed back on the advantages or disadvantages of using a thumb slug since I have never thrown a ball with one.  I am also afraid to try something that different halfway through a season.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

You will get the same fell in every ball if you have thumb slugs in them. The cover and filling in a ball can have different friction depending on what ball and company, but with slugs you will have the sam kind on plastic in all of you thumbholes. You dont need to have slugs, like if you use tape in the hole.

I switched from Slugs to none this season.  I like the feel better personally.  I also put a piece of black shiny tape on the bottom of the thumbhole to get a consistent feel.

I find I can get out of the ball cleaner that way.

I use thumb slugs in all my balls except a White Dot spare ball. I decided to cut corners and have no slug in it. The ball is in my closet because my thumb always gets hung up and miss left most of the time with it. And the hole is larger than all of my other equipment so it comes off my fingers easier. I myself will never go without a thumb slug again.

I had slugs in everything I had, sold it all and started the season with new lineup and no slugs. I like the feel of the ball, however, as said above, slugs will give you the exact same feel, ball to ball. IMO, it's an individual thing. Good Luck !

I like the same feel I get from ball to ball with the slugs.  The different textures inside the thumb hole worked on me I guess, so I went with all slugs, I've been very happy with the results.

I used to use slugs and liked them.  Was cutting corners on a ball last year and went without one and initially had trouble with hanging in the ball.  Opened up the thumb a little more and put in a piece of white tape in the front of the hole and black tape in the back.  This has allowed me to get out of the ball and get a consistent feel from ball to ball without the use of slugs.  The extra $15 saved on each ball adds up.

recently I tried a Vinyl slug and liked it.

I do not like the slippery feel of urethane.

I often like vinyl inserts also.  Vinyl releases the thumb slower than urethane slugs.  Similar to the speed of the ball without slugs.

The Turbo slugs are very easy to work out and the texture will always be consistent from ball to ball. That is very important in my opinion.
