TRoad Pearl vs. Illusion
« on: November 04, 2007, 01:45:57 AM »
Could anyone give me a comparison of these two.  I'm looking for length with a strong flip.  I will be searching for a pro pin and lay it out with a very high pin position.

I'd say it's very difficult to compare these two balls b/c I think they're practically mirror images of one another.

Here's a question for ya: My local pro-shop dude was telling me companies like Roto-Grip, Circle, and MoRich actually use other company's plants to produce their balls. Like Roto-Grip uses Storm. Now he also said that these smaller companies use their parent companies' coverstocks. Now if this is true, what is the Roto-Grip name for the RS2 coverstock?

I can tell you one important thing about the coverstock used on the Illusion compared to the T-Road Solid.  It's a harder... so it should be cleaner and more aggressive off of dry boards.

I really miss the reaction of the higher durometer pearl reactives of old like my X-Zone Hi-diff.

n00dlejester:  Storm acquired/bought Roto-Grip earlier this year.  Not sure if they use the same plant &/or coverstocks.  The weight blocks are different but maybe engineered simular?

I have not seen an illusion yet, so I can't give an honest opinion for comparison but what i've read, factory finish I thought Illusion was more polished.

I think that companies who are "under" another one have their balls poured by the "parent" company, but they get to use their own formula. That's what I've gathered from a few posts on this site, anyway. I'm sure someone will correct me and clear it up.

Storm did not aquire or buy Roto Grip Earlier this year.  Sales staffs were merged this year to help strealmile marketing activities.

As was mentioned before in other posts.  Roto Grip and Storm covers are of different chemical breakdowns.  Sometimes the base materials come from different suppliers.

The common thread is the production facility.

It is my opinion that the Illusion will go a bit longer than the T-road and be a bit more angular on the backend.

Turns out you were right, Storm bought Roto Grip in 1997 according to Roto Grips Web site, "not" earlier this year.  Storm hired Hank Boomershine in March, earlier this year as VP of sales & still develop & grow the Roto Grip brand.  I didn't realize at the time Storm had "already" acquired them 10 yrs. ago.  Whatever, the point is they're still owned by Storm.

The Illusion comes factory 2000 grit & the T-Road 1500 grit.

the t-road pearl is less flippy. it's a more stable ball. with the illusion core, it is taller so it gets down the lane a little farther but then has a much more violent move.

coverstock strengths the r2s is very new and strong, but clean through the front. the ultimate vision is a little earlier in the heads, but the 1500 vs 2000 polish rating is very similar. a better comparison would be 4000 abralon on both.

Subsidiary companies don't necessarily share coverstocks or even urethane/resin suppliers.  You can't say "RG is owned by Storm, so Ultimate Vision must be Storm Coverstock X only renamed".

Sometimes that is the case.  Powerplus and Superflex were pretty widely believed to be the same coverstock, as were PP EX and Enhanced SF.  Also, when the smaller companies aren't owned by the larger company, but merely manufactured by them, the covers are often the same or tweaked versions.  A lot of Lane 1 balls had PK18, PK17, and Activator covers, though later you'd see blends of PK18 and Activator (like the Hybrid Dirty Bomb).  Likewise with Morich: some used standard Brunswick covers, some were tweaked.  The particle additives were Mo's own, I don't believe he used the same particles that Brunswick used.

That would be correct.  I was basically replying to n00dlejester's reply about companies, not his question about Roto name for Rs2.  Then I replied to rotomike.

Sometimes you can find similarities between some balls because some are designed to do what another brand's ball does but that would be the only thing that's the same.  Bowl up a Storm!!
